This movie about a guy that doesn't deserve to have a movie made about him. Also this movie is not accurate at all. I'm fine with that but don't claim it is.

Another perfect part for Michael Shannon. Cold blooded killer with a heart of gold for his family, Shannon takes you on a roller coaster ride from start to finish.

Fairly accurate, great actors, and any omissions are certainly per the director's discretion. I am not sure the average public is ready to see a man, dying from cyanide, being choked via garotte and hidden under a bed. Thus it is one of many events omitted by the movie, but as a writer and embalmer for 23 years, there are details the average viewer could not withstand. A++

Michael Shannon acted his butt off in the entirety of this movie. Watching his expressionless demeanor as he does whatever it takes to support his family was cold and powerful. From the costume design to the killing scenes, this was a quality film. Ray Liota was great as well, despite playing a very stereotypical role. I would recommend this to anyone who's a fan of mob movies or ice cold killing rampages. This was a solid film that encourages you to challenge your own beliefs - what would you do in the same scenario? I am happy I watched this and I hope Michael Shannon gets more recognition for this film some day.

While it has a very good lead performance the tale is a bit slow and convoluted .

I never liked Mafia movies, but I gave this one a chance because of Michael Shannon. He's a fine actor, but his performance can't save this dismal film. All the usual gangster cliches are here, to the point of self-satire. Shannon is just not convincing. He tries, but it just doesn't work.

I don't see why I should care about anything but the poor family.

Incredibly, this film is based on a true story of a real hitman. Micheal Shannon's performance is superb, and is the main attraction. He is so intense, he really scared me, and if he came looking for me I'd be terrified. The film works because it takes the viewer on a journey into the criminal underworld, alongside a reluctant hitman. In the beginning he just needs a job to support his family, but as the plot develops, you realise that he is riding a one way ticket away from his family, and there's no way out for him. I found the whole story gripping. The pace is just right and the film kept my attention right to the end. Highly recommended.

Though the plot was intriguing, the pacing of the the story took forever! But the action was done nicely and realistic. Throughout the movie they kept saying the main character was cold stoned but you saw it unravel as time and more killings went by! But more interaction with each side (family and work) to how their importance in main characters life so one could understand the stakes better! It was kinda assumed but to show it would have impacted the the story better! Seemed rushed at the end!

Michael Shannon does what he does best in this and bring great intensity, but he can't save this movie with it's half baked, disjointed story.

I'm surprised this movie doesn't have a higher rating, I've watched it multiple times and really enjoy it each time. It's not the crime movie of the year or anything and it definitely takes liberties with the facts but I've enjoyed this movie every time I've seen, solid 7/10.

I watched this movie as I was looking for something with cold and grim overtones and who can be better than Michael Shannon for such roles. The plot was average and direction was mediocre with some very effective scenes. Basically, Michael carries the whole movie on his shoulders. It's his amazing performance that propels this movie. The thing that i liked the most was the character of Chris Evans. It is written beautifully that intrigues the viewers right from his first appearance and the feeling of shrewdness that his character creates is just awesome, in my opinion his character deserves a separate film.

Right out the gate - based on a true story... a good start. If you enjoy a tense crime drama involving organized crime then this is a movie you might like.
