The Iron Ladies Reviews
Imagine Cool Runnings meets Priscilla, Queen of The Desert. It's a sadly formulaic underdog sports movie, and most of the humour is basically "tee-hee, we're gay!" but it somehow remains watchable and is an interesting insight into Thai and kathoey culture.
An out-and-out old-fashioned underdog sports film. Plenty of charm and sassy attitude that only a group of queens can deliver.
Story about Thailand's first ever all-queer volleyball team. They struggle to compete in Thailand's prestigious volleyball tournament. Heartwarming but damn funny to the core.
Based on a true story, this remarkable, comical film talks about the lady boys who made it through the national volleyball competition when the odds were against them.
This is a typical sports movie filled with typical sports movie cliches - an underdog team of misfits learns how to work together, beating the favourites and forging friendships, yadda yadda yadda. It is also a typical kathoey movie filled with typical kathoey camp characterizations - much of the humour derives from the screaming queens of the court flouncing around like marionettes. And yet the entire charming package is so thoroughly entertaining that this is easily one of the best Thai comedies released in the West so far.
a funny film with a deep meaning... for me it's all about achieving your dreams even there is a discrimination when it comes to your sexuality...but of course don't forget the comedy!ehe^^
has some funny moments but you will struggle to get through 2 hours of it. the way the volleyball scenes were shot really annoyed me. not bad.
Amazing and outrageous funny true story of Thai volleyball team composed mostly of transsexuals, transvestites and some rather effeminate gay guys to the national championships in 1996. That also happened in an extraordinary true story of a Thai boxer - <I>Beautiful Boxer</i>.
There is not one original bone in this movie's body. It is highly given to cliche, the drama drips with unapologetic melodrama, and the characters come close to being one dimensional. With that being said, it is rollicking good fun. The acting sells the one dimensional characters, the cliches and melodrama make the movie good fun where it could have easily fallen victim to being too serious, and the script is lovable. The characters are quirky and lovable, the movie fun and frivolous. I love every moment of it.
All right, I gave it 5 stars for its unpretentiously bad-taste-feeling good-kinda movie. It's either you like it or hate it - no in-between. Everything was irredeemably bad - production, script, and acting! However, it's one of those CAMPY FEEL GOOD movies that take you away from the HELL that called EARTH. A gem of a guilty pleasure! It's based on the true story of Thai's first transgendered-gay volleyball team to garner the national champion medal. PURE fun! Available on DVD only.
Fantastic! Hilarious yet sweet movie about tolerance, achieving your dreams, and of course; happiness! With my bf we still have the doubt: is Pia's actor a guy or a girl? O_o she is so pretty!
A heart-warming story. Stereotypes and caricatures not-withstanding, the movie holds some important lessons for all of us.
Based on actual events. Despite a bit over the top acting from some actors, and terrible acting from others, an enjoyable movie. The Region 2 disc just could have done with a decent documentary about the real events.
This movie roXx!! I love a good underdog film & this one is good because it's true. And April, May & June are just adorable
