The Last Laugh Reviews
Both actors are wasted on poor comedy and direction. I couldn't finish it. I watched first 45 minutes n bailed. It's a shame. It had great potential but old, tired jokes, slow pacing, poor characters around them. Skip it. Not worthy of the actors. Should have let Chevy write it.
An unsurprising road movie, but heart-warming. Brought back actors I hadn't seen in a while, n particular, Chevy Chase. I didn't realize Chase was so much taller than Richard Dreyfus. The other players were just along for the ride, though Andie McDowell played a very sweet part in the story. Old age is what we're all facing - but as Dreyfus jokes (though that's not so original) is that the alternative to getting older is not so attractive.
In this buddy Road movie two Aging comedians leave a rest home to play the comedy clubs. Chevy Chase appears to be an out of sync robot while Richard Dreyfuss tries real hard and some sometimes succeeds. Andie MacDowell plays a hippie beauty that goes along for the ride. This is a movie you watch when you got nothing better to do.
I loved the picture. It shows you that you can do whatever you want no matter how old you are. This picture is cool and clever. Good work.
First 45 min was quite entertaining with the cast of characters. Drolled on after that….got a bit boring and slow.
It was alright like nothing really to hate, not that funny, but at the end you care about the main characters so that's something.
Younger audiences will quickly get bored. Older audiences will eventually get bored. I guess that covers everybody.
The Last Laugh fails as a comedy, mainly because…well…there aren't a lot of laughs. It may be passable as a drama, despite being predictable and not particularly original. Retired talent manager Al (Chevy Chase) and former comedian and ex-client Buddy (Richard Dreyfus) flee from their old age home and hit the road in an effort to revive both of their careers. Dreyfus is always a pleasure to watch and Chase keeps his annoying mugging for the camera to a minimum as they hit comedy clubs from Tijuana to New York. If you can ignore a handful of intensely annoying scenes, topped by Chase's ridiculous ‘shroom hallucinations, there are a couple of chuckles and a few tender moments to be found.
Un film leggero e divertente, perfetto da guardare la sera quando l'indecisione prende il sopravvento.
Not great but thoroughly watchable due to being thoughtfully written beatifully acted by two beloved old pros
Fun enjoyable Netflix movie. Richard Dreyfus was very good and it was fun to see Chevy Chase again. Worth watching particularly if you enjoyed both of these actors throughout their careers.
Meh, it passed the time. It's not a shitty film, but i'm a little bit disappointed 'cause i expected something better. It's a good plot, but, talking about stand up comedy, i expected better jokes, better screenplay and better story. Instead it turned out like a generic comedy movie, without particular twists in the plot, and a little bit trivial. Wasted opportunity, 'cause there aren't so much movies talking about stand up comedy, and i was really curious to see what could have been, before watching it.
I started The Last Laugh with the anticipation of laughing throughout, but the laughs only came in spurts. At least I got to laugh from time to time, though. Full review: https://ryansmoviecorner.com/home/the-last-laugh/
Worth watching if you enjoy nostalgic films or are over 60 and are losing friends. Sad yet poignant.
Typical contrived, formulaic, uninspired script matched by a typically contrived, formulaic, uninspired Chevy Chase. Saved in small measure by a sly performance by Richard Dreyfuss. Poor Andie McDowell is dragged in to fill the third-wheel love interest role that's right out of the Buddy Road Trip Movie 101 textbook.
