The Last Showgirl Reviews

Apr 28, 2025

Why everyone thinks it’s great I’ve no idea. Pamela still hams up the weird little girl voice, hams up the drama and generally over acts in an overly dramatically directed bad movie. It’s horrific. It’s over done ham acting in rhinestones. The scene outside with the crying and twirling and hair grabbing is the worst. It’s so bad. How Pamela was lauded for it I have no idea.

I don't get the great reviews about this film. the performances were awful and parts of it were basically just a music video montage. the story is awful as well and very disappointed with the direction. Coppola has a long way to go to live up to her last name.

Set against the backdrop of Las Vegas’s declining revue scene, The Last Showgirl follows Shelly (Pamela Anderson), a seasoned performer whose three-decade run in the Razzle Dazzle show comes to an unexpected end. As the curtain falls on her longstanding career, Shelly and her close companions—portrayed by Kiernan Shipka, Brenda Song, and Jamie Lee Curtis—are left to grapple with the uncertainty of what comes next and to reflect on the personal sacrifices and regrets that have shaped their lives. The standout feature of the film is its acting, with Pamela Anderson earning particular acclaim for her deeply personal and nuanced portrayal of Shelly—a character wrestling with disappointment and fractured family relationships. Jamie Lee Curtis, along with the younger actors, enriches the story by depicting women at various stages of their lives, all shaped by the harsh realities of the entertainment business. The strong ensemble chemistry is a key asset, authentically conveying the sense of a makeshift family formed behind the scenes. Director Gia Coppola brings a wistful, retro aesthetic to the film, employing gentle visuals and sparkling costumes to capture both the glamour and decline of vintage Las Vegas. While the movie draws comparisons to The Wrestler for its portrayal of an aging performer, some reviewers note that The Last Showgirl doesn’t quite reach the same emotional depth.

The B-Side of Las Vegas is an interesting story - and Anderson plays the part. Kinda just sad, though. Like an epic reminder to make good choices.

Coppola's vision alongside Anderson's emotional comeback immerse you into a thought provoking dream, giving you a window into the end of an era and life after the facade of vanity and riches.

For a moment, I thought it was a Sofia Coppola film, until I saw the end credits. In fact, I believe this film has more soul than some of her more recent work. The acting is strong overall, despite a few gaps in the script. Still, it’s a commendable effort from independent cinema, portrayed with great dignity.

What is with all these 30-something women who are coming out of the woodwork and trying to make a movie???? Problem #1 is the storyline is vapid, weak, boring and really goes nowhere. Problem #2 the directing is vapid, weak, boring and really goes nowhere. Problem #3 this film is a knockoff of The Wrestler starring Mickey Rourke in 2008. It was fabulous. And I have a feeling these women don't even know what I am referring to. But it's a really great movie like this one isn't. Problem #4 Pamela Anderson cannot act despite the character being close to art imitating reality for her, again a copy of Demi Moore's horrible film being autobiographical about her obsession with always looking young. Problem #5 Just because your last name is Coppola doesn't mean you know how to direct. Problem #6 And nepotism with KINDA cousins all who have of course written a play or have a half-assed idea about a movie....just doesn't cut it and is what's making Hollywood so BORING. Problem #7 You might graduate from a film school or from an Ivy but that doesn't instantly give you the creds to make a decent film The ONE good thing about this movie was Jamie Lee Curtis' performance. She stole the show.

Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis are outstanding. A really good film.

Beautifully shot. Jamie Lee Curtis and Pamela Anderson give extraordinary performances.

Personally found this film to be captivating, perhaps Pamela Anderson giving a performance I have never seen before, the shots of Las Vegas, the sad truth of a world changing more and more every year, here depicting a perhaps unconsidered element of yester year that will never be seen again.

Super overrated, slow, so slow this sub 90 minute film felt like it was 3.5 hours long. Literally nothing happens for the whole film, there is no real backstory on the characters, or motivations, reasons for why they do what they do. And the ending, was it real? Did she die in a car crash? Was it a dream sequence? Was the daughter really there? Who knows, and who cares.

Very depressing but nicely acted. Plot doesnt have a resolution but I guess it's supposed to be like that, like her life. Made me sad. She looks great without makeup, showing the aging. Perfect for the part. The filming was very artsy which was great. She is an icon, and hopefully her next role will be even bigger.

It's a well done and acted film about the Vegas shows that no longer exist. It's sad to see how how Shelly-Pamela Anderson works to make herself convinces self she did good make right choices for her art but did she??? Worth checking out

If you expect to see a spectacular Las Vegas show, you will be dissapointed. We never see any part of the stage show. It is mainly about women, particularly older woment, losing their dignity and sacrificing their lives for the glamour of a show. It is embarresing to watch some scenes when older women dance as though they were nubile youngsters. The picture quality is terrble, as it was shot on 16mm film, which looks blurred on a big screen. The dialogue sounds as though it was improvised and that the microphones were placed too near to the subjects. It was very sad but not enjoyable in any way.

Really wish it was better and has a wonderful performance from Anderson but the messaging was so clearly signalled from the beginning the drama never quite went beyond 2nd gear.

Its about hanging onto the best times of life, before you got older ,impatient and critical about your own decisions in life and the mistakes you made but didnt apologise for. This pulled at my heart and made me remember we are all only human and getting old is a blessing.

Thank you for this movie with Pam, she was great!

The movie was slow,, slightly depressing, and although I'm not sure what I expected, I didn't expect it to be so boring. I don't recommend it. In a nutshell it's about a dancer who never thought ahead and planned for her future. The end.

Pamela's finest performance. She's a force to be reckoned with. Ignore Kevin Maher's negativity. Dunno who he thinks he is. Try making a movie mate!

Very good. Sad and difficult but not too melodramatic. Well done.
