The Little Mermaid Live! Reviews
In this combined review of "The Little Mermaid" franchise, we explore the animated sequel "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" and the live-action adaptation, as well as the stage production. "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" follows Ariel and Eric's daughter, Melody, on her journey back to the ocean, mirroring her mother's desire for adventure despite attempts to shield her from the sea. While the animation quality may not match the original, the film offers a creative storyline that engages viewers, with Melody becoming a fan favorite character. The introduction of Athena, Ariel's mother, provides a poignant exploration of her character, filling a gap that fans had wondered about for decades. In the live-action adaptation, notable performances by John Stamos and Queen Latifah stand out, with Queen Latifah delivering a memorable portrayal of Ursula. Their presence in the stage production showcases their talent and adds depth to the story, leading to questions about why they were not included in the live-action film. The decision to cast different actors, including Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, raised concerns among fans who felt that the potential of the live-action adaptation could have been elevated with different casting choices. Overall, the expanded universe of "The Little Mermaid" provides fans with new perspectives on familiar characters and stories, offering fresh insights and interpretations that add depth to the beloved franchise. While each installment has its strengths and weaknesses, the enduring appeal of "The Little Mermaid" continues to captivate audiences across different mediums.
This was much more enjoyable than the live action. I swear on my life. If you disliked the live action, give this a shot.
One of the worst live musicals I've ever seen
The Little Mermaid Live is a terrible movie. It's a good story ( like the original ), but there are too many breaks in the action, and that makes it bad. I didn't watch the The Little Mermaid live very recently, but O remember it was really bad. Me and my family didn't even finish the movie because of those constant breaks. What a bad movie.
Very disappointing, worst part was the horrible graphics. Did not feel like a exciting Disney movie quality. Casting didn't make sense/wasn't good. The animated characters; Flounder, Scuttle and Sebastian were weird looking and didn't sound much like their original cartoon selves. I cringed from beginning to end…
Loved it going for another round
I wonder if most (all) people who reviewed this show in 2023 know this isn't the 2023 remake, but a stage show, hence the live! in the name. About the product. I think it works better if you are in the audience. But I saw itbon Disney+, and this makes it strange. You got completely out of it everytime they showed the audience. It is a strange brand between the animated movie and a stage show (also with behind the scene moments). I recommend it to watch at least once, but I would always prefer the original movie over the stage show (which already is a big part of the show).
Nicely done. There was a little political messaging but for the most part it was a clean, simple live action remake with decent acting, nice singing and a nice bit of nostalgia. Considering the garbage coming from Disney/ Marvel lately this was a pleasant surprise. My 7 year old laughed, cried and was in a trance.
Bad make up,bad effects,bad acting...
Childhood ruined. It was bad as we have seen the original. For those young people who haven't seen the original, I think they will like it.
Why is it so complicated for Hollywood to understand what people want ? It's incredible to be so bad an making a movie when the script and everything else was ALREADY WRITTEN decades ago ! Adding bad acting, bad storytelling and a bad cast doesn't help.
This is absolutely horrible. Don't remake classics and then do whatever this is.
Genius!!! This was AWESOME!
Might as well have just watched the animated version. Because it's half the animated version but chopped up to cut time to get to the live performance singing. They changed under the sea just enough to be irritating. Nothing wrong with how that song was originally. The stunt element was really awkward. Didn't look like mermaids under the water. Looked like a woman trying really hard to ignore that she was being pulled around at the waist while she's trying to sing. The costumes for the fish looked uncomfortable and not attractive. Sebastian had some sort of non crab, Michael Jackson look? Then they added puppets? And extra dancers in the audience. It was a lot. At one point Ariel is singing about wanting to live on land. While another Ariel and Eric dance under water? I have no idea where the inspiration for that came from. There were two Ariel's on stage. At one point the eels are at the back of the audience so only the people watching on the filmed version can even see that those characters are there. It was just a really excessive mess. I enjoyed the bit where I got to watch the animated little mermaid because it's a classic. Sometimes we are watching the audience watch the animated version which is weird. The actors and actresses they chose were great singers and that's about it
Only decent because of the cast. The way the musical was done was atrocious, and it just ruined any sort of genius that was used to cast the show.
I loved it it was really good , I watched it twice . I would love if they had more live performance than the movie . I didn't like Grimsby being a black man instead of being white. What they should of done was act out the movie as the movie was playing that would of been cool. The music should of been the music that was only in the movie . The added music was not necessary. Shaggie should of been in a crab costume not what he was wearing he didn't even look like a crab . In the beginning should had Ariel's sister's sing the song and they should of been moving around not sitting . Ariels sisters didn't even look like them at all their hair color was all wrong . I loved the way Ariel swam and the other two mermaids in the beginning. The flounder puppet was cute so the other ones too. The mermaid costumes are awesome I love the big tails. The actors and actresses did a great job . It was really cool that there was a real sheep dog on stage. Jodi Benson voice of Ariel was awesome to announce the live action play . I hope they make a little mermaid 4 where Melody is older .
I feel bad for the audience. That pretty much saw more of the movie again. Than they even saw a live performed show. John Stamos breaks character more than once to remind the audience who he is. He even shouts out that he should be Prince Eric. Stamos shouldn't do Broadway anytime soon. It's Queen Latifah who steals the show as Ursula. Eventhough you see more of Ursula in the movie being shown during it. Than you see her on stage.
Seriously, The Little Mermaid comes off as something Disney is stuck with more than they actually want. I'm going to go off and say the original is one of my favorite Disney films. While mostly loved for nostalgia. I'm not going to say the story was well put together or had the best narrative. This live production on 온라인카지노추천 basically showed the original's problems we may have ingored as kids. I also want to say the girl they got for Ariel was just horrible in the role.
one of the most confusing cringe worthy productions I've ever seen; 90% of it is a rewatch of the movie itself. the crab looked like a dude in a red motorcycle suit, the cartoon segments were way too long and Ariel sang when she wasn't supposed to have a voice. Queen Latifah gave it her all so there's that.
