When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. OH. MY. MARS! 🚀✨ "The Martian" is basically "Home Alone" in space, but instead of setting traps, our boy Matt Damon is out here becoming the FIRST SPACE FARMER! Talk about agricultural GOALS! 👨‍🌾 Y'all, this isn't just Castaway 2.0 - this is Tom Hanks' Wilson but make it BOTANICAL! Matt Damon is serving us space-potato realness that would make Idaho JEALOUS! And honey, he's working those crops like it's Project Runway: Mars Edition! "Make it work!" but with SCIENCE! The visuals? STUNNING! Mars is serving red-carpet realness with more drama than my aunt's Facebook updates! And that soundtrack? ABBA and Gloria Estefan in space? It's like Studio 54 met NASA and I am HERE FOR IT! 🎵 Matt Damon? HONEY, he's carrying this film like it's his personal Louis Vuitton! He's giving us solo performance realness that has me wanting to grow potatoes in my apartment! The way he science-d the HECK out of everything? ICONIC! And can we talk about this supporting cast? Chiwetel Ejiofor serving Mission Control EXCELLENCE! Jeff Daniels giving us bureaucratic SASS! And Kristen Wiig? Coming through with that unexpected-but-totally-working NASA ELEGANCE! The pacing? PERFECTION! It's like a perfectly choreographed space ballet that had me CLUTCHING MY ASTRONAUT ICE CREAM for over two hours! This isn't just a movie, it's a MASTERPIECE with a side of root vegetables! Ridley Scott said "Let's make science sexy" and BOY DID HE DELIVER! 🥔✨

I’m sure it’s been said before but this is Castaway on Mars. And it absolutely works. I would’ve liked a little more time on Mars pre-accident, but you get to know the characters pretty well anyways. There were sufficient twists and turns and while the movie is about 10-15 minutes too long, it still keeps you locked in. Matt Damon does more than keep your attention, he entertains and makes you actually care. Surprisingly, the ensemble cast shines without knowing much about them on the NASA side. Wish we could’ve got to know them and their roles a bit more beyond a quick title card.
