The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl Reviews
A vivid, batty, whirlwind of a film in Masaaki Yuasa's wildly imaginative style...
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 23, 2020
the general style, both in terms of pace, dialogue and visuals is somewhat difficult to follow, and demands the viewer's full attention in order to appreciate it fully, not to mention a knack of absorbing the chaos.

It's a bit much and an overload of the senses at times, but the feelings always come across as honest and I couldn't help myself rooting for the main characters.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Sep 17, 2019
It might've sufficed as a short film.

what really makes this film such an interesting piece of art is the animation style itself. Indeed, Masaaki Yuasa borrows from his previous work and really unapologetically allows himself to go in all the directions possible.
| Original Score: 5/5 | Mar 1, 2019
It is completely bonkers so it won't be for everyone but I enjoyed it.
| Original Score: 9/10 | Feb 25, 2019
I'm not sure even Thomas Pynchon could have crafted this kind of fever dream scenario.

It's everything, a movie about the bottomless energy of youth that itself possesses that energy and instills it in the viewer.
| Original Score: 5/5 | Jan 9, 2019
It's delightful, delirious, delicious madness that perfectly captures the breathless euphoria of falling in love and the first time you truly realize just how scary and wonderful it is.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Dec 27, 2018
Lovers of anime are going to love this, and they have every reason to do so. This one packs a chockful of laughs in many places, and it's one of the more inventive animated films of the year.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 18, 2018
Featuring a strong woman as a rebuff to traditional anime issues, it [Night is Short, Walk On Girl ] serves as a funny and fancy romantic narrative.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Nov 20, 2018
That unrestrained surrealism and willingness to surprise the audience with something new at every turn is why Masaaki Yuasa is one of the best filmmakers around.
| Nov 1, 2018
At the very least it's presented with vigor and confidence in a manner which keeps our eyes peeled for more from the talented filmmaker.
| Original Score: B | Oct 17, 2018
This is not for the casual animation fan, nor is for someone necessarily looking to connect with the main characters; it cares about the sum rather than individual parts, but that's kind of okay.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Oct 11, 2018
A film with reminders that you should have clean your room yet also a film about cherishing the highs and lows of youth.
| Aug 27, 2018
The term "fever dream" is often used to describe animation like Yuasa's, but it's rarely so apt as it is here.
| Aug 26, 2018
It will leave some people scratching their heads, understandably...but this is pure inventiveness and creativity.

Frankly, it takes enough effort just to keep up with the pretty colours.
| Aug 23, 2018
Amusingly bizarre anime comedy has iffy themes, drinking.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 23, 2018
A highly original work by an artist who follows his own vision - wherever it leads.
