The Nightmare Reviews

Dec 13, 2023

It's interesting and scary but only at surface level. I get why Ascher avoided using an experts as interview subjects but it also makes me wonder what the point is here . . . even just a few minutes of expository dialogue could help give some context.

Neither a horror story or an enlightening doco, this feature comes across as a confused mess.

I loved this movie because I've encountered sleep paralysis before. If you're watching to get scared, this isn't the one but if you want to learn about a world rarely discussed, you've found it. Don't try to compare to Insidious, it's not at that level. Aside from the silly shadow men and alien figures, it did great at explaining what people who suffer from or have experienced this go thru. Maybe more people will be compassionate when kids have them.

I've experienced sleep paralysis with hypnagogic hallucinations and I can't think of anything in my life that was more terrifying. I truly hope if you haven't been through this, you never will. This movie is a vivid depiction of the perfect storm nightmares are made of.

Top notch directing and atmosphere, but the scares sadly become repetitive and the characters at times do less justice than they could. 6.4/10

The production value is pretty good, about the same as high-end ghost encounter re-enactment 온라인카지노추천. This takes it a step further with a sleep paralysis diagnosis. They should've explored the mass hallucination passed seemingly by suggestion between girlfriend and boyfriend.

Fascinating and riveting documentary that I can honestly say is one of the scariest films I’ve ever seen.

As usual with these types of shows, I'm not a firn believer in what they're stating. If its all true, then wowow... sleep paralysis is the scariest shit out there. Its freaky how it penetrates their life even when they're awake. I just need to come to a conclusion re whether I believe in sleep paralysis or not.

If you have had sleep paralysis this movie will confirm your fears. If you haven't it will terrify you.

Absolute garbage. I can't get back the time spent watching this and I'm frankly rather p*ssed off. Why isn't zero stars an option?

This is a very scary documentary!!!!

not gonna lie, freaked me out a bit. i am a little disappointed that this wasn't an actual documentary; it's more just people sharing their personal experiences by telling stories. there's no real learning about it, really, besides what the people said they googled in 1995. overall, though, pretty scary stuff.

Creepy as fuck. And I've had sleep paralysis a few times in my life.

This was surprisingly scary and I've twice now had to stop watching because it was nighttime. I didn't actually watch the whole thing until it was daytime....and I was surrounded by my dogs for comfort. The thing that scared me the most is that I could definitely relate to most of these stories. "Sleep paralysis" as the scientist call it is no joke but this went beyond that which I wasn't expecting and the beyond is what was scary and relatable. Good documentary and I'm sure I'll watch it a few times more because I like scary stuff.

interesting experiment in horror/doc, but lacking in scientific evidence. has moments of effective creepy.

The behind the scenes became more interesting than the subject matter at hand, but that alone makes it well worth the watch. Wish they would have added more scientific info on sleep paralysis, but informative nonetheless.

Boring. Didn't do the subject any justice.

A few of the experiences were similar to mine. What I did not feel was emotion from the cast. And if these events truly happened to them which is what I expected being a documentary (unless it was the Blair Witch type), it felt very dry. I kept waiting for something that never came. It reminded me of the reenactment dramas that you see on History Channel or whatever. Effects were a bit twilight zone-ish. What film makers fail to realize is that our imaginations and internal fears are worse than any low budget special effects you can come up with. This might have been more intense with just the cast telling their story no dramatization. Watched in 3 parts. Fell asleep on it night 1, watched some on lunch hour, and finished just now. Appreciate bringing the subject to masses as well as other phenomenon like astral projection.
