The Piano Lesson Reviews
Terrible and disjointed and longer than it needed to be. The story obviously has value yet was not adapted well for film
A masterpiece from start to finish—beautifully cast, beautifully acted, and beautifully directed. Every performance is captivating, and the direction brings August Wilson's powerful story to life with nuance and depth. I'm so glad I caught it in the theater and can’t wait to experience it all over again when it hits Netflix. A must-watch!
Deep, moving, entertaining, feel good movie. The cast is extremely talented and captivating in this story. My family and I had a few laughs too.
A++++!! The Washington kids are all super talented. John David is a bonafide star Danielle Deadwyler is too!! Both will be household names. Excellent directing and cinematography. Strong cast, timely timely story.
A powerful story told beautifully. The playwright was done justice by the actors and director alike. The climactic finale took my breath away.
Based on the play by August Wilson, The Piano Lesson is a big swing that mostly connects. The acting is standout especially Danielle Deadwyler. The direction and cinematography also is first rate.
Does a fine job of taking a play by a master and turning it into a piece of fine cinema.
The script was extremely flat. The main character had way too many lines while others just sat around listening to him banter. The whole setting was inside the house, like what? It probably should have been a short film/stage play, like 45 minutes at the most. I miss the old movies.
Cinematically resonant, captivating story of legacy. A chilling spin to a period piece that I've never before witnessed. Fresh theme and flush with a talented ensemble cast to bring the story to life!
so… Danielle Deadwyler, Michael Potts, and Ray Fisher were in a different movie than everyone else (positive) any nominations/awards should go to Danielle Deadwyler + Michael Potts also, the last 1/3 of the movie…was it filmed by someone else (positive)? it is an extreme departure from the rest of the movie (positive)
