The Wolf and the Lion Reviews

Heartfelt empathy for the plight of abused animals outweighs the flimsy, sometimes silly plot machinations. Molly Kunz and Graham Greene make for an appealing pair of heroes.

| Jun 14, 2022

With a dull thud, the flat human story collides with the thin one about the cute animals.

| Mar 21, 2022

A frustrating, dramatic and heavy-handed film.

| Mar 10, 2022

Extremely vapid on every level, The Wolf and the Lion is a poorly made drama that irresponsibly advocates for untrained people to raise large wild animals, such as a wolf and a lion, inside their homes.

The cinematography is quite good -- the animal photography is excellent. I do not think it had much of a script at all.

A movie about completely adorable animals - and for many people that is all they need to be entertained.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Feb 14, 2022

The four-legged stars in the family film The Wolf and the Lion fare a lot better than their two-legged co-stars, if only because they arent saddled with clunky dialogue and ludicrous plot development.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Feb 13, 2022

The cute odd-couple animal pairing only works for so long before this movie's plot and underwhelming characterizations start to stretch credulity.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 10, 2022

Watching 100 minutes of cute animals on your phone is preferable to sitting through the laughably bad Wolf and the Lion.

| Feb 7, 2022

It's a gentle story with pretty visuals and a theme about kindness and understanding animals.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Feb 5, 2022

The animals roar, but the script howls. Still, I appreciate the filmmakers' innovative work with the real-life wolf and lion.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Feb 4, 2022

The dialogue sometimes sounds like the product of Google Translate. But hey, you get to see a baby lion and baby wolf tussle and romp and smooch. Maybe that's enough for you; for long stretches of this movie, it was enough for me.

What the movie lacks in logic, it makes up for in wonderful landscape shots of Canadian forests and lakes, as well as adorable footage of real wolf pups and lion cubs. So it's hard to really come down too hard on The Wolf and the Lion.

| Original Score: 78/100 | Feb 4, 2022

The best parts of The Wolf and the Lion are when the titular creatures are just goofing off in someones backyard...Unfortunately, theyre just a small part of the feature, which tends to emphasize tears over cuteness.

| Feb 4, 2022

If the aim of The Wolf and the Lion was to be inspirational, it fails miserably. The filmmakers take too many shortcuts and dont pay enough attention to their characters to warrant the audience caring about anything that happens in the film.

| Feb 4, 2022

The Wolf and the Lion is a lot like the internet: about half aww-inspiring scenes of irresistibly cute animals and the other half dumb, boring human beings.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Feb 4, 2022

What could have been a cute nature documentary turns into a sappy animal rescue tale in which the characters on four feet are much more compelling than their two-footed counterparts.

| Feb 4, 2022

If only the characters in the movie who dont have furry paws were more compelling.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Feb 3, 2022

On the surface, The Wolf and the Lion provides the cuteness it mainly exists to provide, but if one gives the movie even half a thought, it feels like an insincere deception.

| Original Score: 1/4 | Feb 3, 2022

The Wolf and the Lion is deeply sweet, utterly predictable, and may well send a few unintentionally mixed messages about human relationships with large predators.
