Thor Reviews
It's a grand, epic, and galaxy-bending display of gods among men. Never before has a superhero movie been so, well, super in its scope and size, yet still leaving room for a little dose of humanity.

Rewatching now, it feels charmingly self-contained and coherent compared to many of its increasingly bloated successors.

Branagh delivers more than anyone likely expected from a Thor comic adaptation, achieving a hugely entertaining success through his obvious understanding of both comic book and Norse mythologies.

It moves at a perfect pace and maintains a great balance between it’s parallel stories.

Hemsworth owned the role of Thor, and Hiddleston made for a wonderful Loki.

Some of the very best melodrama Marvel has ever offered.

It should all feel much more ridiculous than it does, but Branagh keeps an astonishing balance throughout.

I love the world of Asgard that they build. It looks beautiful and the dynamic between Loki and Thor is dynamite.

While not perfect, the casting is on-point, the action scenes done well and the dialogue full of just as much humour as drama. A fun film overall.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 24, 2021
Poorly characterized villains and bouts of hokey dialogue work to hinder the nobler efforts.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Nov 30, 2020
Doesn't come close to achieving its true potential.
| Original Score: 2.5/4.0 | Sep 26, 2020
There were too many inconsistencies to simply ignore, too many questions that are left unanswered to make this a truly enjoyable experience.
| Original Score: C+ | Aug 10, 2020
Marvel's reluctance to entertain the notion of confronting military conquest works to its narrative detriment. The heroes aren't allowed to truly change, because they're never made to face the parts of themselves most connected to the world around them.

Thor changed everything. Thor gave us a universe.

A surprisingly adept mixture of comic book goofiness and epic mythos, filled with bright colors and beautiful production design.

Thor introduces an entirely new realm of mythology to the Marvel Cinematic Universe by way of the wondrous beauty that is Asgard.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Apr 18, 2019
Director Kenneth Branagh and the screenwriting team of Ashley Edward Miller & Zack Stentz and Don Payne...have come up with a movie that's surprisingly winsome and enjoyable.
