Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It is certainly a tear-jerker. It’s not going to surprise you by taking off into uncharted narrative territory but it’s the kind of tear-jerker which never loses touch with reality. Rated: 4/5 May 1, 2025 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian This movie doesn’t rewrite the much-used plot line of young people fighting the odds with the help of a renegade adult but it brings its own warmth and compassion to it. You will want the choir to sing like angels. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 25, 2025 Full Review KT Mahe For Your Reference Podcast TINĀ works backward from the emotionally driven drama and attempts to fill in the gaps with cultural meaning while having an outside facing lens. TINĀ is a film that may be lacking to some but also mean a lot to others. Rated: 3/5 May 6, 2025 Full Review Oti For Your Reference Podcast Tina tugs at the heartstrings from the start, blending feel-good choir moments with big emotion. It aims to uplift and entertain—and I hope it resonates culturally for those it represents. Rated: 3.5/5 May 6, 2025 Full Review Andrew F. Peirce The Curb Tinā is a comforting film. It’s one that accentuates the beauty and warmth of mothers and great teachers. Apr 30, 2025 Full Review Doug Jamieson The Jam Report One of the most beautiful gems you'll see in a cinema this year. Sophie H I had been very patiently waiting to see this movie and it was so worth the wait. I took my kids for Mothers Day and we all laughed and cried, such a beautiful film with great performances and a fantastic soundtrack. I would encourage anyone to take their kids along. I really hope Anapela Polataivao gets some well deserved Award nominations for her performance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Laurie F Two great lead performances. The film has a huge heart but there are some scenes and some dialog and acting that are so OTT that it drags it into melodrama territory. It also tries to tell too many stories rather than focusing on the main one. All that said, the film still moved me and I just wish it was a little less obvious in parts. Antonia and Anapela are magnificent. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review Julia E A beautiful movie moving, heartfelt and deeply human Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/10/25 Full Review graham r Another great movie from New Zealand wonderful acting and a story line that hooks you in from the start I would highly recommend this movie the music is stunning the acting totally amazing an all round good movie Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/04/25 Full Review Malia N PHENOMENAL. As a Pasifika woman these stories MATTER! It’s not just a story but showing the MANA of what a mother can do in ANY environment. The details of balancing humor and honest conversations surrounding mental health awareness captured the intricacies of Pasifika households. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/03/25 Full Review ARITOA L A profoundly affecting cinematic elegy, masterfully weaving together themes of intergenerational trauma, cultural preservation, and the redemptive power of artistic mentorship within a deeply relatable and emotionally resonant Samoan Kiwi narrative.
