Top End Wedding Reviews

May 22, 2022

A truly funny ride that reads so distinctly Australian (specifically showcasing of Indigenous cultures which is touching and sensitive) with a genuine, beautiful exploration of love, connection to family and heritage tied up neatly within it. Love stories are nothing new, but this one is told with such deft nuance that renders it a clear standout in the modern rom-com genre. Put simply, I cannot express how happy this movie made me - the performances were charming and well rounded; a new favourite!

Cracking little Indi Rom-com. Shame this didn't get the push that ‘My big fat Greek Wedding' got for its Writer/Star. Miranda Tapsell deserves far more credit.

A little bit cheesy, and yet not! -It's a lot of fun, and not without its serious side, too. Some parts are absolutely & subliminally superb, whereas one or two bits were a bit ordinary. In any case, well worth watching at least once, and probably yet again some time later, too. -I am looking forward to it! TOP End.

Simple yet powerful. One of the best chillied movies I have ever seen.

Wonderful. Lots of great stars, plenty of humour and drama. Captured the different characters. Stunning images of the best the Top End has to offer. Looked like a tourism promotion. I'll probably watch it again. Ranks up there with The Castle as an iconic Aussie film without overplaying the Aussie stereotypes.

Wow, a well received RomCom?!?? Same formula as the rest in this genre. I could write the exact same review for all RomComs. Most are pretty good feel good movies about finding your soul mate and they are easy on the mind; minimal focus required. This was a nice change, being from Australia, and it had a couple of educational touches for an unfamiliar part of the world. The cast were very good and made the characters quite believable. I don't see this much harmony in Australian culture, do it was nice to get a pocket of it so realistically delivered.

A delight from start to finish, with the second half particularly charming

The writing is lackluster. But the cultural reasons to see this movie far surpass any negatives.

See this feel good movie and leave with a smile on your face and your brain free of damage. A delightful film that you can take your great grandmother. The Northern Territory is truly amazing and the photography in Top end will prove it. All the characters are wonderful. I am not a crier except when ET returned home but Top End brought a tear to my eye. A film you will remember for at least a fortnight. Go and see it.

My childhood in Darwin right there on the big screen with my tidda girlz. Non-Darwin mob may need a translator :-p

Lovable characters but too many side stories and plot points. This makes the film seem rushed and forced. Would have preferred the focus to stay on the mother-father relationship, finding the mum and then reconnecting with the family.

The trailer for this film did not do it any justice. Our sold out screening danced out of theatre. Highly recommend.

A good little journey down memory lane. The first hour was a little silly - but I had an 'I'm not crying, you're crying' moment at the end.

Well if you take a presumed input from Tourism NT, the director and star of The Sapphires, this is exactly what you get. A gentle rolling rom-com with masses of landscape a few laughs and a wedding at the end. Very much a feel good movie.

Beautiful heartwarming movie that showcases the warmth and joy of indigenous communities in Darwin and the Tiwi islands. Highly recommended!

The movie is marvellous - great romcom. Miranda Tapsell wrote, co-produced and starred in it. She will bear watching in the future.
