Total Recall Reviews
Why so many poor reviews? In my opinion too many are looking at this as a remake. I treat it as a completely separate film. More like a ‘revisit’ if anything. It’s as believable as the first, which isn’t very, and goes over the top as much as the first, but it’s ‘Sci-Fi’. Watch it again without comparing and see if it changes your enjoyment.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Fantastic cast, edge of your seat thrilling action.
No ! Simply just NO
A underrated sci fi gem. A must see!!!
Any formerly R-rated movie that is remade as a PG-13 movie is automatically trash there is a whole list of them do not watch the stupid movie Kate Beckinsale sucks in it and so does Colin Farrell both of you blow for doing this movie and lost me as a fan took a good movie and trashed it whoever this director is he can bunk up M Night Shyamalan and make another stupid movie what a twist
Awesome remake, fun to watch.
Non-stop action, entertaining watch. It doesn't have the suspense or emotional depth of the original Total Recall, but it has a good storyline and characters in its own right.
The early set sequences were high budget and iexciting. Colin Ferrel was convincing and I could never resist Jesica Beil. The escape scenes we creative and well choreographed. The plot line got a little loose in the middle but ended strong.,
Special effects are absolutely on another level compared to the original, but the story is good and I really like Colin Farrell. This is a good movie.
Why does this exist?
Not bad, not great. Great adaptation of the AI cops. Actors great. I don't like how they didn't keep the same Mars theme going from the original? Weird to cut that out. And why, did they miss the chance to replay Doug Quaid's best line, "Consider that a divorce." lol. Instead make the whole movie about his fake wife chasing him??
Cant say this movie lacks coo sci-fi action scenes. It's jam packed full of it but it takes the illusion wether he is sleeping or awake feel one sided. That's was one of the great lore's from the original and this movie failed at elevating it or at least maintain it. Could not maintain it for at least half way through the movie and took away from the plots twist and steak's that you should feel if the events was not a dream.
I liked this much better than the Arnold version; because it was truer to Philip Dick's novel !!
I think that Director Wiseman's instructions to Colin Farrell were: "Look bewildered", "Keep looking bewildered" and "Look more bewildered". Not ideal for an otherwise decent actor. Oh, well. They can't all be winners.
This is totally soulless. There are some cool visuals ruined by none of the charm from the original. I'm not wasting my time writing a long review, just know that there is really no reason to watch this film ever.
Soulless trash of a movie. They took out so many elements from the original; going to Mars, the mining, the alien tech, the mutants... that they should've just called it by a different name. It still would've sucked. Robots felt like leftovers from other better scifi movies. Kate Beckinsale is HORRIBLE. Her acting was painful to watch. And wtf was up with the strong strobe light in opening scene?!?! Are you trying to make your audience have seizures?
Why did we need a remake? The original Paul Verhoeven masterpiece was perfect. A fine mix of satire, brutal violence, stunning score by Jerry Goldsmith and amazing set pieces on Mars and a little bit of movie magic sprinkled in. This remake offers none of that and more.
So, Total Recall is essentially a beat for beat remake with one glaring omission, the driving catalyst of wanting to "take a trip to Mars." Instead, they just jokingly reference the source material and original movie, "you could probably even have a memory of traveling to Mars." I mean, it's okay, in all its 2010s lens flare glory... But it just made me wish I was watching the original... Or like I read, a more faithful adaptation of the short story.
Not the best movie ever, but for action fans, it's a must see. The original, although a great story, is trash. I'm sorry to say, but it's true. Arnold is not a good actor, and never was. This movie takes the original idea, makes it more realistic, and just better in every way. Solid acting, good fx, and good story.
While the action and acting were great, this movie as a whole was awful. Even discounting the fact that it's one of those remakes where they changed everything that made the original great, the setting is nonsensical and the writing is terrible. Then there's the fantastic cast, which could have made for a truly spectacular movie, but combined with the nonsense writing ended up just making this movie even more of a disappointment.
