After spending all the reward money from his first encounter with the giant man-eating worms called Graboids, Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) agrees to hunt more of the deadly creatures at a Mexican oil refinery for $50,000 each. Knowing that he cannot face the monsters alone, Earl recruits Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), another veteran of the incident in Nevada, to supply the firepower. There is only one problem: The Graboids have now evolved to attack above ground.

Not wanting to tarnish the perfect original, I avoided this for a long time. It's not bad at all though- the effects overall are pretty good bar a few ropey CG shots and the cast amiable enough. The attempt to splice in a dose of Gremlins works too. Has it's flaws, not least the shaky premise that literally nobody bar Fred Ward has the slightest interest in the reappearance of the underground creatures, but a pleasant surprise given the low expectations I went in with.

I noticed while I'm watching Tremors 2 the creatures are killing three Mexicans and not other people that's so disrespectful. And there's some humor in tremors 2 but doesn't have the spirits of the original tremors.

"Tremors: Aftershocks" clearly doesn't reach the level of its predecessor, but it does offer some surprises and funny moments. For some, it may rely too heavily on the same joke tropes as its predecessor, while for others, that may be exactly what is expected from this sequel. It manages to maintain the original's very specific situational humor and offbeat vibes.

Rarely do you watch a sequel of an original film that feels like a direct rehash of the same plot. While elements of the film remain similar to the original, the twist in the films monsters gives it a new narrative with fresh challenges for the protagonists. Returning cast members in Fred Ward and Michael Gross add some credibility to the film.
