Triple Threat Reviews

Episode 33: Triple Threat / The Raid / Dragged Across Concrete

| Original Score: 40/100 | Sep 14, 2021

There's a scene in "Triple Threat" where Tony Jaa fights Scott Adkins, then Jaa and Iko Uwais fight Adkins, then Jaa fights Adkins solo again. A scene. Not even a scene, a sequence within a scene. If that doesn't convince you to watch, I'll try harder.

| Original Score: B+ | Jun 30, 2020

Hopefully, the trio will get another chance to deliver something with more staying power.

The script gets in the way of an easy win by trying, in vain, to actually be a good movie

| Original Score: 2.75/5 | Jul 17, 2019

This movie isn't going to win over non-genre fans. But if you are a martial arts fan, you got to check it out. Though, it's not a classic.

| Original Score: B+ | Jul 10, 2019

Triple Threat may not be the action wonderland given the talent involved, but it is still an entertaining piece of martial arts goodness thanks to its performers and the ferocious action scenes.

Various action sequences in the film are worth the price of admission. [Full Review in Spanish]

Even with the lack of an A-List star, Triple Threat finds a way to stand on its own.

| Original Score: 7.5/10 | Apr 2, 2019

While not exactly known for their dramatic capabilities, these men do know how to put up a fight, resulting in a slick, entertaining feature that works best as a showcase for their talents.

...synthetic showdown of low-rent lacerations and belabored beatings. Triple Threat is more of a single slingshot of cut-and-paste frivolity that seems more makeshift than raucously inspired.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Mar 27, 2019

While the plot may be distracting, the martial-arts action is just as stellar and threatening as you hope it would be.

| Mar 25, 2019

If you're someone intrigued by the very idea of 'Triple Threat' and its "VOD action all-stars to the rescue" appeal, then you're going to have a good time with this one.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Mar 24, 2019

It is disappointing, to put it mildly, to have so much talent wasted in an actioner so pedestrian it could've starred anybody else and been just as mediocre.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Mar 23, 2019

Rarely has a film failed so miserably at capitalizing on its raison d'etre as Triple Threat. Indefensible and infuriating, as if you bought ringside seats for Wrestlemania to see Roman Reigns and A.J. Styles circle each other for 75 minutes.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Mar 23, 2019

Hardcore action buffs might be willing to forgive the unfortunately generic nature of Triple Threat based solely on the star power alone, but those who require even their basic genre fare to have a little substance to it are advised to look elsewhere.

Your scorecard will be full, which is the point.

| Mar 21, 2019

It's almost as if 'The Expendables' was remade with action stars actually capable of kicking ass.

| Mar 21, 2019

You'll spend most of the film's running time hoping that this trio gets to work together again in a film worthy of their talents.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 20, 2019

Triple Threat looks good. It sounds even better. The rarity of seeing this type of action film projected is unfortunate.

| Mar 20, 2019

Low-rent, but reasonably entertaining, with one legitimately great action scene about halfway in.
