True Romance Reviews
Love Tarantino movies. Im and 80s baby but just watched True Romance for the first time and it's not great. I understand the nostalgia for some but totally can tell it's a green Quentin. Not an original plot. Very dumb haha
I've watched this film many times. It's one of my favourites. I care about it because visually it has those cosy aesthetics. There's sex, drugs and romance, violence witty humour. It's all there. Of the greatest ensembles of acting royalty. Written by Tarrantino and directed by Ridley Scotts brother Tony Scott (Top Gun). Must see!
One of the best films ever made, a must see.
Quite possibly (as certain as an indecisive person can be) my favourite film of all time, forgotten for years and found on my rewatch of films I used to love. This film has everything, great dialogue, superb score/soundtrack, cinematography, story, humour, action, thrills and most importantly great characters portrayed with a cast of some of my favourite actors. If I had to say one bad thing about this film, there is only one and that for me is that scene with Patricia Arquette and James Gandolfini however I suppose this does serve to show how strong she is as a person, even if I do look away. Favourite thing about this film, Alabama Hurly played by Patrica Arquette, "she's so cool"
Remains Tarantino's pulpiest script to date!
I recently watched True Romance, and it was a wild ride from start to finish. The film follows Clarence, a comic book enthusiast, and Alabama, a call girl, who fall in love and find themselves on the run after stealing a shipment of drugs. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette have electric chemistry, making their whirlwind romance both intense and believable. The movie is packed with memorable scenes and a stellar supporting cast, including standout performances by Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken. One particularly intense scene between Hopper and Walken had me on the edge of my seat. The dialogue, penned by Quentin Tarantino, is sharp and full of dark humor, adding depth to the fast-paced plot. While the film is undeniably violent, it's delivered with a style that keeps you hooked. Director Tony Scott balances the action with moments of genuine emotion, making for a rollercoaster of a movie experience. If you're into edgy, fast-paced stories with a touch of romance, True Romance is definitely worth a watch.
Brilliantly written and executed
"True Romance" is a 1993 crime drama that has garnered critical acclaim for its dynamic storytelling and standout performances. The film holds a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus stating: "Fueled by Quentin Tarantino's savvy screenplay and a gallery of oddball performances, Tony Scott's 'True Romance' is a funny and violent action jaunt in the best sense." Roger Ebert praised the film's energy and style, noting that "the supporting cast is superb, a roll call of actors at home in these violent waters: Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, and Brad Pitt, for example." The film's screenplay, penned by Quentin Tarantino, is celebrated for its sharp dialogue and intricate plot, while Tony Scott's direction brings a vibrant and kinetic energy to the narrative. The ensemble cast delivers memorable performances, contributing to the film's enduring appeal. Over the years, "True Romance" has developed a cult following, with audiences appreciating its unique blend of romance, humor, and violence. Its influence is evident in various aspects of popular culture, cementing its status as a significant work in the crime drama genre.
Despite having seen this before - admittedly not since its original release - and its place in the pop culture of the 1990s, I remember very little about this. But what we have in this Tarantino-written, Tony Scott directed thriller about a pair of lovers running from a drug gang, is a tight thriller (it lacks the undisciplined sprawl of many of Tarantino's later films) with a brilliant script that lapses too often into things that just haven't aged well into these more aware days. The performances are universally excellent, and Scott's sheen looks good (as always); Tarantino's obsession with men shouting in a Mexican standoff is probably not necessary in the film's climax, and it inevitably lacks extra depth. But it stands as a brilliantly made thriller that's not really trying to be anything else except well made.
🌀COLLECTION RATING 97%
An extremely underrated film which does not get the attention like other films of that era. A classic of that era and a film that's simply good fun to watch. The Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken scene is great.
A must see if you're a fan of this genre. One of the best movies of the 90's
Pretty good early Tarantino. Final shoot out diminishes it.
It a nice comedy action movie. Loved the performances of Gary Oldman and Christian Slater. Also the Sicilian scene was amazing.
Nothing here has aged well, highlighting the worst quirks of Tarantino’s writing and Tony Scott’s direction.
Great Classic movie of the 90th
Loved it. A Tarantino film even without him directing. The Sicilian scene pretty unforgettable. Lots of small divergences from movie norms. Music really set mood so well. So many great actors in small roles. Loved it.
Wow....just an amazing flick. Definitely one of my favorite movies. An off beat loner finds true love with his soul mate who is searching for kindness and safety in a world full of chaos and evil. The action is nonstop but not senseless and gratuitive. Every frame is edited to perfection with a beautiful rhythm and flow. Incredible scenes and script. This film couldn't be more perfect!
They don't make movies like this anymore.
