Waiting for Superman Reviews

The people we trust with our children’s education have no intention of doing anything different. Unionized teachers work within a system where merit and achievement are marginalized, and the loss of employment because of poor performance is impossible.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jan 10, 2024

The cracks and deficiencies of the American public school system are revealed and out on display in a very strong way.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 8, 2022

For all the solid information and convincing arguments presented throughout the run time, it's the genuine emotional connection to those families that make the film so powerful.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Nov 1, 2021

Provides eye-opening and oftentimes utterly shocking information about the crisis in America's public school system.

| Original Score: 8/10 | Nov 30, 2020

Guggenheim's heartbreaking film, a Best Documentary contender that did not even get nominated---he won for An Inconvenient Truth---opens with an admission of white liberal guilt.

| Nov 17, 2018

It makes it a heart-wrenching true story about what adult special interests are costing our children.

| Oct 3, 2018

Don't miss this one, even if it seems a bit long at two hours. It's classy and artfully produced.

Intelligent and thought-provoking, this documentary may not be one of the best movies of the year but it's surely one of the most important ones.

| Original Score: 4.5/5 | Jan 6, 2013

Waiting For Superman is at times powerful, often tragic and -- at the very end -- incredibly moving.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 14, 2011

Like all topical documentaries with a worthy approach, it encourages awareness and debate about yet another inconvenient truth.

| Original Score: 4.5/5 | May 5, 2011

It's still a vital topic for discussion and worth seeing if only because it organizes a few focal points for ongoing public debate.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 4, 2011

It's possible that one of the reasons why the film wasn't nominated for a best-documentary Oscar was because it was too horrifying.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 31, 2011

The superhero metaphor enables some synergistic retro 온라인카지노추천 series footage but it doesn't quite suit the argument.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Mar 30, 2011

I'm sure some will disagree with the points that Davis Guggenheim is making. That's to be expected but it will help generate a badly needed debate on this subject matter.

| Original Score: B+ | Mar 24, 2011

I wish Guggenheim had - as he did in The First Year - stepped back, followed these families, and let their stories speak for themselves...Still ... the raw materials are there, and it would take a heart of stone to not sympathise with the subjects.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 23, 2011

While there are gaps left uncanvassed, this remains an absorbing exploration of a crucial issue which not only exposes problems, but offers answers.

| Mar 23, 2011

Just as he passionately got stuck into Al Gore's global warming theories in An Inconvenient Truth, Davis Guggenheim explores the US school system in an expose of its appalling inadequacies... an excellent and sobering documentary

| Mar 21, 2011

Waiting for "Superman" is essential viewing. It's as simple as that...Most importantly, it is impossible not to be touched, nay, radicalised by this devastatingly inconvenient truth.

| Mar 7, 2011

... a close look at the current (US education) system is all it takes to consider making a real change.
