Walking Tall Reviews
Tre Rock movie’s are always worth checking out. Supporting cast is also good. Overall not a bad movie.
Strong movie, I liked it. But I just can't give it 5 stars. There's just no way Chris would have beat his case in real life. When you see the movie from Chris's point of view, you can see he's justified in his reactions. But he never proved to the court that the casino staff were dealing drugs nor did he prove that the scars came from said staff. I personally wouldn't believe a casino sold drugs to children because they already make A LOT of money from gamblers, especially if they hold a monopoly over the city. I they were to sell they'd be pushing kilos out of the county to other manufacturers for the risk to be worth it. There's a lot of ways this movie could have been better. One is by having Chris actually prove what the casino was doing to the jury. The other by having the casino outsource their drugs while simultaneously still putting the younger actor's roles in danger. Such as trying to kill (or actually killing) one of the younger characters because they were a witness to a drug crime involving casino staff.
As a pretty big fan of the original, i can't see why this one is so hated. One of the least boring movies you will see in your life, and if it werent for the many lacking scenes here that are in the original, it would've been a 10 out of 10. Amazing and solid action combined with a slightly above average makes this a very entertaining watch.
Despite being a fan of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, I've only just got round to watching 2004's 'Walking Tall' - an (apparently!) 'true' story about a soldier returning to his home time to find that pretty much everything centres around a corrupt casino. Now, it's up to him to take it on and take it down. The film surprised me on a fair few levels, but most of those are based on how I now see Dwayne Johnson and the typical type of film he now stars in. Back in 2004 he wasn't quite the Box Office powerhouse he is today, therefore 'Walking Tall' was almost more 'low budget' than I ever imagined I'd see him in. Now, that's no bad thing. You don't need mega-budget and tonnes of computer-generated special effects to make a good film. You just need to tell a compelling story. And, to be fair, 'Walking Tall' was a simple and effective tale. First of all, it's pretty short - weighing in at well under the typical hour and a half. Therefore it does cram quite a lot of story into a short space of time. This means that it's never dull, but sometimes the plot does just seem to gloss over major plot points and jump from major factor to the next in - literally - a single scene. For example, a court case happens almost within days of the (alleged) 'criminal' act it resides over. Don't crimes usually take months (or even years?) to come to trial normally? However, that's just a minor gripe. I don't know much about the 'real' events it was based on, so I don't know how exact anything really plays out, but it is certainly an interesting piece as it begins to show Dwayne Johnson's natural charm and screen presence. He's not quite ready to take over the entire Box Office, but, if you look closely, you can see that it's going to happen pretty soon. Plus fair play to making a piece of wood feel like one of the cast! I'd like to see the plank of wood go on to bigger and better things - just like the man who wielded it!
Another great film from the rock easy story to follow and typical rock humour through out 5/5
Worst of the bunch. Walking small more like it. The Crock gets to flex his muscle because he can't act.
Ignore the reviews. It's a great, straight forward action movie. It's movies like this that make me hate the modern day films
The plot isn't the deepest but it's great for an action movie. Ignore the negative reviews.
It is entertaining, but the real seriff deserves better.
Watered down, PG-13 safe remake of the 70s film that neuters the story, the characters, and the violence.
Exceptional Underdog Action Movie. I can not say enough about this movie. Walking Tall has been one of my favorite movies of all time since I was a kid. It tells a wonderful story of how a deployed military soldier (The Rock) comes back home. When he comes back home, almost everything has changed about his hometown. The town is now ran by drugs, a gang, corrupt cops, and casinos. The Rock must change what has happened to his beloved home. How can The Rock make it safe again for kids and families? He must run for sheriff. Walking Tall constantly adds new hurdles The Rock has to go over to get the old town back. It is a wonderful story with amazing action and cast. Thank you.
I watched this when I had COVID at the start of 2023. I was sick and laying in bed eating soup. I honestly think this was my second time watching because I vaguely remember it from 2004. To be blunt, I liked it way more than I thought I would. It's silly and laughable at times, but I couldn't help but be entertained. The Rock is himself. Not much range, but he's always a joy to watch on screen. The villain is basically the same one from Justified. Even Johnny Knoxville is here as The Rock's friend. It's a harmless, action packed movie that is sort of a guilty pleasure for me.
It almost was good! But there's a big problem. The characters and script are dumb
Everything about this movie was ridiculous and excessive but it also was kinda fun ? 2.2
Walking tall was a moment-to-moment Hollywood trope-fest, starring the Rock in a break-in role as a walking stereotype of every Hollywood-inspired Value. Supposedly special forces, his fight scenes are dramatically ridiculous muscle-fests straight from WWE. Obviously there's the kids drugs thing, the ex-girlfriend who's now a stripper, and the attempted deconstruction of small town values as inevitable. It was funny seeing all these big name actors on a 'casino' set that looked like it was built in a garage using borrowed county fair equipment. It was absolutely awful... Knoxville and McDonough tried to desperately revive this with their performances, but were powerless in the face of the phoning-it-in the other actors and director were doing. If you want to kill a couple of hours during a train trip or something, feel free to throw a few brain cells to be killed off by this tripe. Otherwise, this movie is a strong argument for reading a book.
The Rock shows signs of the action hero he will be but Knoxville drags it down and the script is below average.
The rock hasn’t found himself yet in this one. Good fight scenes but that’s about it
I enjoyed movie when it came out
Walking Tall is an action movie starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson. He returns from the military to his hometown as Chris Vaughh and realizes his hometown is full of corruption and he decides to take it upon himself to stop it. This movie is not that good in characterization. Chris is likeable but there's no logical reason why he should become a vigilante and do it himself. The villains are cheese and the movie with cliches. Yet the movie is fun with some good fist fiights and shootouts but in the end is ok.
