War on Everyone Reviews
the second half way better than the build up. i laughed many times. what chair? 3.5*
What a hidden gem. Very non-conformist, refreshingly unusual and unadapted in many aspects but not to the extent that the plot is completely unbelievable. I liked the performance of many of the main actors. Special tribute to Paul Reiser.
Love this movie whenever feeling down watch it all the time very creative and love the scenery and the art the car Monte Carlo the two actors chemistry is wonderful wish they would do a part two or at least have these two guys work together and more off the Wall films like this love it will always love it love the soundtrack to tractor and writer and actors to me where a terrific a much watch for anyone feeling down or just wanting to have a laugh the movie delivers thank you for making this movie and thanks the Stars that you picked the whole crew made the movie and the landscape I can't say enough about it thank you
It's not bad, definitely not the directors best, but still head and shoulders above most cop buddy flicks.
Overall I'd say 4 stars..There were some absolutely HYSTERICAL parts of this movie that had me nearly crying, but there were also some slow and not so great joke parts..All in all it was good, but plot wise it just never really congealed into a great story or anything..It's almost like a bunch of dark sketch humor strung into a full length movie, that just kind of misses the mark of fully coming together. Id recommend watching though, I def laughed my a$$ off in some places, and all the actors I thought did a great job and were very well cast - and the characters were all very funny alone
A light-hearted romp through the world of two Albuquerque New Mexico police detectives as they deal crime in their own particular fashion. Highly recommended for LWO's as it provides insightful training that is often difficult to obtain on the job.
Much underated unique
This movie hits on all 4cylinders of its 8 cylinder 1970 Monte Carlo Coupe V8. It is built that way! Like a new car modeled after the original Mel Brooke's classic satirical movie tropes found in Blazzing Saddles or Young Frankenstein, it's a slap and a prat fall of a movie, sadly with only 3 wheels. Other reviewers may miss the fact this is a pre pandemic comedy that was made for big theaters where the energy of laughter is contagious. What may seem an excruciatingly long pause, is actually meant to give timing to laughter to a large audience. Two actors who feed off each other while maintaining stoic personalities, seems impossible- but Michael Peña and Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård pull it off. Once you BLINDLY, a must for a gaslighting film, accept the premise, the rest of this movie rolls off like a tasty mime on top of a car's windshield time after time again.. the script issue is no teal story to follow. Great concept that seems written by a committee of Episcopalians. One final note, for the those feelings are hurt and we need to cancel this movie because it makes fun of this or that ... blah, blah, blah ... get out of your parent's basement, look around, we could all use a much needed, good laugh....at YOU standing in the street asking whats so funny. The downside is the directing misses many marks on timing and the music is ill conceives. The script at times tries to hard. The language, again, unenessary. Had it been reserved for an ocassional shock, it might have worked. This movie is on ROKU or Prime Video. Huzzah!
Although the lightweight mood makes "War On Everyone" relatively easy to watch and Caleb Landry Jones provides an amusing performance, this is such a miss. Its biggest offense is that it never really becomes funny, instead emerging as a try-hard film constantly striving to sound snappy and witty but ending up pedestrian and basic, while any perceived attempt at satire is buried underneath the lazy script and negated by the gratingly lighthearted use and abuse of weighty, tricky subject matter.
Brilliant in its slapstick social commentary at times..but a muddled plot holds back what could have been a great one!!
Pena and skarsgard are the most weird duo but it works perfectly somehow, warning :if you're a little fairy please don't watch this movie.
A buddy cop drama-dy... if you liked the Starsky & Hutch remake you'll probably like this, and it's totally aware of that.
They had a decent script to work with but the comedic timing of several of the actors was off the mark. Although I like Michael Peña in some other movies, he phoned this one in, and it really shows. Even though this movie was attempted to pay homage to these sorts of movies in the 70s, Hollywood ruined it by inserting their social programming in multiple instances.
A dirty cop movie that really doesn't get going until you pass the first 30 minutes of the film.
The bits saving this one, some of the situations are meta funny! The film, acting and story though, 2 - 3 stars.
When ever you see a Marcel Marceau look a like getting run over by a car within minutes of a film, you know you are in for something with the creative depth of a Geico commercial, a very long version of an insurance advertisement (with Dirty Cops?), but in this case they forgot to add those so clever punch lines. The movie is perfectly titled War On Everyone... A war on your intelligence and the unfortunate audience. The only noteworthy performances were from the fabulously talented Caleb Laundry Jones and a sexy Tessa Thompson. Both actors were the only thing worth watching in this totally nonsensical celluloid shit sandwich.
A great dark comedy. Peña and Skarsgard are excellent. This film deserves much better ratings than this, it was very enjoyable with surprising humor and the leads' premier deadpan deliveries.
