Amber Wilkinson Eye for Film Arnold has never been one to shy away from the realities of poverty and that clear-sighted view is in evidence here. Audience Member Highly acclaimed, multi award-winning short from director Andrea Arnold, follows Zoe a young mother and her four children as they struggle to live from day-to-day in Dartford, England. Further complications arise when she is asked out on a date by an old friend. Realistic and thought-provoking drama. 18 January 2022 | Rating 8/10 | 馃嚞馃嚙 MUBI Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It's refreshing to see a film so raw and brutally realistic as Wasp. There is no Hollywood glamour in this. The lives of poor and working people in England are presented with their flaws on full display. The acting and the story are fantastic, but it's the quick cuts and close-ups that make it feel visceral. There are times when the direction seems to be headed towards something so terrible that it would be nausea inducing, but it never goes too far. Wasp finds a sweet spot between the mundanity of life and its uncomfortable truths. A powerful film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review
