A silly wet mess. Overlong and stupid.

the most unfairly underrated movie. good deep meaning If you remember that this is 1995 and don't compare it to "Mad Max" from 1986, then it's a very, very good film.

THIS IS WHY YOU CAN’T TRUST ROTTEN TOMATOES!!! I’m totally baffled why this movie gets such a bad rap! I was totally enthralled with the story, the acting and the set design. Dennis Hopper gives a fantastic performance as usual, and the rest of the cast is solid. This just goes to show that you can’t always trust what the majority says.

Not great, but not bad. Mostly forgettable.

A totally passable and forgettable action movie. I liked the villain, he seemed to be the only actor really trying, but besides that it's all low effort 90's cheese, and it just so happened to be the most expensive movie ever at the time

Some of the dialogue is uneven and the pacing is a bit slow, but its action-packed scenes, set designs, and some of the performances help this film stay afloat.

It was undeniable that it was a great performance of the casting and it deserves a big applause

Fun simple action flick

Waterworld is a really fun, enjoyable movie that people love to hate for whatever—incorrect—reason. It’s every bit as enjoyable as Road Warrior, of which it takes large inspiration. I personally think it’s better…

Fun post apocalyptic world where the earth is mainly covered by water. Dennis Hopper was so entertaining and the cast of characters were just so much fun to watch. Also the water scenes are absolutely gorgeous

This film captured my imagination as a young teen.. I still revisit every year or so. I love this movie. Not sure why it gets the hate it does. What more could you ask for in a 90's post apocalypse movie? Besides zombies of course.

A fun 90s movie to just kick back enjoy too

2.5/4 Good acting, and watchable, but more imagination went into setting and action than story, and climax is spoiled by ridiculous credibility.

A classic 90's movie that makes for a great watch on a hot summers day. You get an awesome cast and LOTS of water!

This movie deserves a little more credit than it gets.

I have always loved this movie and believe it’s underrated. It has its flaws, but it’s a really cool concept and has cool scenery and good action. I like post-apocalypse type stories, so that helps. I really don’t see why this gets so many bad reviews.

Technical achievement, yes. Largely spoiled by Kevin Costner's very, very, very limited range… and wooden performances from the remaining cast. However, Hopper and Jeter knew exactly what kind of movie they were in.

Jeanne Tripplehorn felt out of place in this movie. Her facial expressions didn’t match any of the scenes.

I know it's famously criticised but this is one of those slightly cringeworthy films that gets points for originality, ambition and scale. It's a visually stunning film, especially for the time, with so much commitment to physical sets. The Wikipedia page for its production is almost worthy of a star on its own. Costner is always Box Office and while this post-apocalyptic "Mad Max On Water" film is more campy than laden with doom, it's just a fun action film anchored around an interesting concept. And as the years roll by, an increasingly realistic future. It'd be easy to give this a low score because it's playful and campy whereas it'd be stronger as a grittier, more honest action film. But the courage to even attempt a project like this deserves love.
