A.A. Dowd Digital Trends Walk Hard got to a lot of this stuff 15 years ago, and with much more precision. May 2, 2023 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It’s a collection of sketches where the whole is less than the pieces. Mar 2, 2023 Full Review Scott Tobias The Reveal (Substack) A goofy made-up plot about Al’s relationship with Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood) sends the film off on an unfunny tangent from which it never returns. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 19, 2022 Full Review Joseph Tomastik Loud and Clear Reviews The same way Weird Al takes the familiar framework and composition of a song but replaces its meaning with something purposefully silly and outlandish, Weird does the exact same thing to the typical biopic formula. Rated: 4.5/5 Nov 2, 2024 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Half the fun of Weird is enjoying the way Yankovic and director Steve Appel skewer the traditional musical bio-pic. Rated: 3/4 Jul 1, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The film's honesty is inspiring, touching on such easily verifiable occurrences as his love affair with Madonna, his gun battle with drug lord Pablo Escobar, and the fact that “Eat It” was an original composition which Al wrote before MJ penned “Beat It.” Rated: 3/4 Dec 26, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Josh A The best way to describe this movie is 100 minutes of straight ridiculousness. From start to finish, it's a ridiculous experience that slowly ramps it up, to the point where it ends with Weird Al's assassination, which never happened. It's also very well made in general. Let's get into it. The best way to talk about this movie is to talk about what it is first, then how it does it. What it tries to be is a parody of typical music biopics, like Bohemian Rhapsody, because Yankovic noticed a lot of music biopics were exactly the same, following a specific formula. It fits, then, that he decided to play with the formula and make his biopic a parody of his life. So how does Yankovic do this? He does this by making it completely nonsensical. Take, for instance, the midway point, where Madonna and Al start dating, or the ending where Madonna uses her ties in the drug industry, from when she took over from Pablo Escobar, to assassinate Al, only for him to become a zombie and attack her. Or when Al gets the accordion and his father almost kills the accordion salesman. It's insane, unhinged and feels very Weird Al. It's just really fun to watch, and that's why I love it as much as I do. Overall, it just feels very Weird Al and is 100 minutes of straight ridiculousness. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review James E A funny and entertaining parody of autobiographies. Perfect for the Al Yankovic movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review SameFace P Shocking and funny, a total blast from start to surprise finish. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review Kevin P A hilarious sh*tpost satire of musician Hollywood biopics that’s a clear love letter to Weird Al Yankovic. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review Alejandro E For all its Brave Little Tailor-like exaggerations, this biographical comedy, told in Al Yankovich's own words, has its charm and makes for an unpretentious weekend. To see an almost unrecognisable Daniel Radcliffe. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Stephen J This movie was better than it had a right to be. Sure it's silly, goofy, and pure entertainment for entertainment's sake. The more you notice in the movie, the funnier it gets. If you take yourself seriously (as some of the critics seem to) you may not enjoy it. If, however, you can enjoy a "B" movie with an "A" movie budget and casting, you'll have a great time.
