Werewolf by Night Reviews

A terrific looking film and great way to introduce kids to the tropes of horror movies

| Nov 6, 2023

Werewolf By Night is a howling good time and perfect for the Halloween season. Giacchino’s debut is certainly one of the strongest and most visually distinct of the recent MCU outings, laying the exciting groundwork for a new corner of the universe.

It’s nice to see Disney striking out in unique directions, especially when the big screen universe is struggling to regain its inventive stride.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Oct 10, 2023

As Giacchino's first directorial effort, it's an impressively stylish romp with fun characters, a stripped-down plot and fun, fairly small-scale action scenes that left this comics fan wanting more from this under-explored corner of the Marvel Universe

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 17, 2023

INCREDIBLE introduction to the horror side of MARVEL. Bloody, creepy, & amazing sound design! + MAN THING IS MY NEW FAVORITE THING.

| Jul 25, 2023

Werewolf by Night seems like a desperate attempt to be considered cinema by overlaying a black-and-white retro filter on the television special to make it look like the movies from the ’40s.

| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 20, 2023

Werewolf by Night serves as a light, simple, unique-to-the-franchise introduction to Marvel's untapped world of horror.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Feb 23, 2023

While it may not be as scary, or dark, or brutal, or action heavy, or character-building as it could have been — it still provides a bit of Marvel Halloween fun and an interesting look at a new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Jan 5, 2023

Sadly, while this is somewhat diverting it and blessedly short (given how overextended some of the other Marvel projects feels), it also feels rushed and under-written. The black and white lensing is fun though, as are a few of the visual effects.

| Original Score: C+ | Dec 29, 2022

The true success of WEREWOLF BY NIGHT is that is it precisely what I did not expect from a Marvel film and from Michael Giacchino, who is best known as a fantastic composer.

| Dec 28, 2022

This was one of most violent, weird, & insanely fun rides that Marvel has ever done! Even with a short runtime, they added in so many important Marvel characters that were brought to life with a great cast and amazing directing from Michael Giacchino.

| Original Score: 10/10 | Dec 27, 2022

Continues Marvel Phase 4's now very apparent love affair with the company's extremely weird late-70s 'experimental' phase with a great debut showcase for director Michael Giacchino

| Original Score: 8/10 | Nov 11, 2022

Giachino composes a tight and entertaining exercise in action and style. [Full Review in Spanish]

If you dig offbeat werewolf stories and arthouse films, then you’ll be begging for more.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Nov 8, 2022

Directed without tempo, Werewolf is neither lurid nor scary nor funny nor campy enough to make an impression.

| Nov 8, 2022

Werewolf by Night is a solid effort and a fun little detour into less well-trod genre territory for Marvel.

| Nov 6, 2022

Atmospherically shot and tautly edited, acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino’s first major project behind the camera is a terrific example of a simple premise, smartly executed.

This one has teeth.

| Original Score: 3 stars | Oct 24, 2022

While most of its appeal is merely surface-level novelty — the black and white tragically feels more like an Adobe Premiere filter than a genuine artistic experiment — there is still a transformative experience in meeting Werewolf by Night on its terms.

| Oct 21, 2022

Werewolf by Night tells a focused story that doesn’t overstay its welcome and has fun experimenting with the visual look of an MCU chapter.
