Wildland Reviews
Several films explore the significance of the family bond; fewer condemn it. Debut director Jeanette Nordahl’s Wildland is one of the latter category.

It does speak about the issues around violence and abusive living conditions, and I commend Nordahl for telling this story. It will certainly not be for everyone, but I was left emotionally attached by the end of it and you might be as well.

An absorbing and often ominous experience...

Wildland doesn't offer any easy answers and the murkiness, and the morality, is where its power lies

There's plenty of disturbing aspects in the plot by Ingeborg Topsøe that makes the film compulsively watchable.

As a first feature, Wildland has much to recommend it... but the criminal family with the overbearing matriarch is a touch too familiar.

Kampp's performance tracks the slow immersion into a life of crime with more patience, even sweetness, than we're used to seeing.

Unflinchingly dark, emotionally devastating and haunting. It's just as powerful as Gomorrah and Animal Kingdom.

Too much left to the viewer hamstrings a cold silent thriller brimming with potential.

An absorbing and highly watchable psychodrama.

Nordahl's direction is steady and workmanlike, perfectly complementing the small-scale story being told and highlighting the authenticity bred into its DNA.

The disappointment is all the greater because of the anticipation that yields nothing in the end.

A chilling portrait of twisted family loyalty, told from the perspective of a young woman caught up in grief, trauma and desperation.

A tense, suspenseful piece of storytelling and a showcase for a treacherously mercurial performance from Knudsen as the fearsome matriarch.

The family that loan sharks together preys together.

This sinister Danish Scandi-noir character study, the debut film from Borgen assistant director Jeanette Nordahl, views organised crime from an unusual perspective...

Director Jeanette Nordahl handles her story beautifully and at the drama's heart is Bodil, the watchful matriarch whose displeasure is to be feared.

Wildland is an original, a compelling gangster film unusually driven by women and told in stark, measured strokes. A unique calling card for director Jeanette Nordahl.
