Willow Creek Reviews
Absolutely nothing happens. I feel like the “real critics” are always opposite of what actually people like.
A couple travels to Willow Creek to investigate the legends of Bigfoot. The beginning is filled with documentary-style interviews of locals, hanging out at filming locations, and photos with Bigfoot art, including a restaurant that serves Bigfoot sandwiches. The last segment in the movie is like that from the movie "The Blair Witch Project (1999)." The movie may be for those who love to sit through slowly building stories.
Acting was good. Story was good. Abit disappointed with the end, it was very fast?
I came across this film recently. To be honest, I didn't get it until the night scene started. The build up was nice and the acting was honestly good but the jump scene in the tent was solid gold! It's been a minute since I got that in a film. I'll definitely revisit it again. Nice job Bobcat! I'm impressed!
Literally nothing happens except the last 10 minutes.
I really liked the acting and the tension between the couple, but found footage films and the jerky-running footage are not my cup of tea. It’s just not scary and seems like a cop out. And I don’t want to give away the ending, but the reveal was a real let down. It was obvious in a way, and used nudity as a shock factor.
The first half or so is a bit generic, but the payoff in the last half is definitely worth it. "Willow Creek" is a surprisingly unnerving film that manages to stand out from other found-footage movies.
I came across this film by accident & thought what the hell,I'll give it a go. Wow! My heart has been racing, the tension as you watch them sitting there terrified is crazy. I always imagine myself in that situation & how scared I would be. Very similar to Blair Witch which I love & I love this too.
I actually found myself tensed up & on the edge of my seat watching parts of this movie. I rarely get this absorbed, so I was pleasantly surprised. The ending was a little disappointing, but who am I to complain? I was riveted, therefore I'm grateful!
Goldthwait directing a found footage film about Bigfoot at first seems too strange to accept, however he does pull off an effective, if slightly cliched, slow burn horror piece.
Fantastic fun. Nothing new in the found footage genre but this really captures the atmosphere of the real Willow Creek town (I want to go!) and it may just inspire you to dig a little deeper into the Bigfoot mythology
After 22 minutes in with NOTHING happening and them showing that guy play a full song on his guitar and harmonica, I quit. So stupidly boring.
Once you get past the fact that the movie is about searching for Bigfoot–which I imagine is a real hurdle for some because it seems like a cheesy plot–this is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a while. There is a sequence that captured the feeling of being scared in the woods the best I've seen since Blair Witch and genuinely left me unsettled and weary of my surroundings all night. Maybe those who don't camp can't relate but I was seriously impressed. The acting is also impressive. All of the characters feel very real like they actually went to interview people with these stories instead of hiring actors. This movie was very well done.
This is a found footage masterpiece. You really have to stick with it, which may be frustrating for some, but it will be worth it. The last 20 minutes of this movie are spectacular.
Slow-burning Bigfoot-flavored homage to The Blair Witch Project. Lots of suspense and discomfort!
If you feel like watching a cliché found footage movie with no pay-off, I can recommend 'Leaving DC'. That one at least is scary while it lasts.
Don't have high expectations to avoid disappointment and appreciate the value of the film. It can indeed be a bit frustrating and moves slowly, but it still manages to keep the viewer's attention and create some scary moments.
Willow Creek revamps the Blair Witch feel - but all based on Bigfoot tales. Too much time is wasted interviewing town folk so that when these filmmakers reach their campsite, things have to turn too quickly. After a long tent sequence, things end quickly.
It is rare that I agree with the critics rather than my fellow audience ratings. But this is one of the best horror movies I've seen. It deserves at least 60%... Higher if you enjoy found footage films. I have found realistic found footage gives me more edge of the seat suspense than other types of horror films. And the less the film shows the protagonist, the better as far as I'm concerned. I prefer my imagination do the work. And this does just that. For the most part, the actors behaved realistically. Their banter with one another also seemed natural. As an avid camper who has spent my own quiet moments in a tent listening for sounds in the dark and putting false faith in the walls of my tent to protect me, these parts of the movie speak right to me. Some people are upset that there isn't more of a reveal, but that is my favorite part. I find my suspense usually wanes once I see the protagonist. I'd rank this up there in the top 5 of my horror films because of how it kept me on the edge of my seat better than most.
