Wishmaster Reviews
Blobbo found entertaining. Be careful what wish for.
Pues, no se, para su tiempo debio ser excelente, no es lo mio pero vere la saga.
After a Djinn is accidentally released, his victim must figure how to eliminate him. I'm not surprised RT has such a low rating by critics but the audience has also rated it poorly. This is a throwback to 80s horror. Cheesy and gory. As the Djinn, Andrew Divoff chews the scenery and Tammy Lauren is a likeable heroine. The film also possesses two remarkable set pieces sandwiching the film on each end. Also of note is the cast features many genre icons and actors such as Robert England, Tony Todd, and Kane Hodder. Fun film! Sorry I missed it's original run. Obviously underrated, IMO.
Wishmaster is an amazing concept with top notch gore however the CGI isn't the best but the practical effects are extraordinary and the makeup is scary and the gore and the kills are creative.
I rewatched this again recently after last seeing as a child, and man I think it’s underrated. The practical effects are incredible!
Extremely underrated. Definitely in my top 3 favorite horror movies.
Sure, it could have been done better, but the premise is good and the deon djinn is pretty cool.
Cheesy but fun movie!
like a zombie movie is fun with violent humor in its frame..... with a bit of a plot spruce up could be better.... be careful what you wish for!! very D&D in that a wish to a demon is not as cool as you imagine and sometimes hurts you
Wishmaster proves that an all-star horror cast doesn't guarantee a decent horror movie. The plot is weak, the acting is mediocre, and the scares are laughable. It's a shame that the great Robert England ended up in a substandard film.
A good premise with great effects, and ridiculous deaths, that was a pretty good time...but got bogged down by it's dumb ending. The story bounces between Alex, trying to learn about the Djinn, and the Djinn trying to learn about her, while collecting wishes and getting stronger...that's all, but it's enough. Alex herself wasn't great, she's a gem appraiser/ basketball coach? [weird combo] And her entire character is "chick who is panicked"...there were some minor footnotes about past trauma, and her current love life....and a small theme about mental "stillness"...but none of that actually went far. As for the acting, it was mostly good, except for Alex... she was really good at freaking out, but not at being tough...admittedly her script had no room for anything else...so it may have been a writing/directing issue. ^those are nitpicks, my only real gripe is the ending: [SPOILER WARNING] The Djinn had twisted every wish in such loose ways that they barely resembled what was asked...until the final wish which was to have "that guy* not drink on the job", preventing the accident that freed the stone...but...it couldn't have found some other way to make the accident still happen? he still could have spilled the drink, or the cable could've snapped...something else could have broken the statue afterwards...it was just such a cop-out for the ending to essentially be "I wish this hadn't happened"...and it was still 3 wishes...even if the stone was resealed, why didn't the other Djinn get freed? ...I hate time-manipulation... All that said, I still enjoyed this. It was well made, gruesome, and fun to think about: "how would I beat this thing?" ...it was mostly just the weak resolution that got me salty. If it had been something cool [that I'm not creative enough to think of], I'd say this was a must-watch. As is, it's pretty neat.
Not good.visauls are pretty bad.
BEST MOVIE EVER (July 15th, 2023)
Classic horror movie with cameos from quite a few horror icons. The movie still holds up today even with the 90s campy bits and dated cg i will co tinue to revisit this film every couple years
Classic 90s horror movie. If you're a fan of movies like Hellraider, Nightmare on Elm Street and the like I think this is a great movie to add to the watch list.
Andrew Divoff's performance in this is the only thing worth sitting through this dull dreck of a movie, because trust me, last you want is to watch Tammy Lauren spend it looking like an idiot and making the most clueless faces. Ok so the beginning is also worth sitting through (it doesn't beat Ghost Ship's intense opening though), but outside of that, just don't bother. The acting from everyone here ranges from crap to outright bad. Even Englund can't do much with what he's given, because he doesn't have much to work with. I know I said Divoff's performance was the "better" sit through, but even that's questionable here. There are moments where it feels sinister and creepy, but other times it also comes across campy and even silly given the way the actor delivers his lines, and some of his hand gestures don't help either. The script, as pointed out, is terrible. Throughout the whole movie, if you aren't bored outta your mind wondering what's supposed to happen next, the rest of the movie is padding out with laughable scenes of Lauren's character making weird faces, as she's somehow connected to the Djinn's magic wreaking havoc. The dialogue in this is also terribly written, sometimes characters shouting out the obvious or the "wise words" sometimes sound more like weird descriptions. Worth sitting through only if you're planning to kill time.
Teetering on the brink of "so bad that it's good", "Wishmaster" offers a mostly comedic movie that tries to be horror. Some of the ideas are just plain silly and the movie is full of bad one-liners.
I loved this movie, I had heard about it but only watched it a few months ago. Classic forgotton and underrated Horror. I dont know why its got such low ratings. Great fun.
Not particularly clever or scary but reasonable attempt.
