Zobel engages his audience not through the normal and expected genre machinations, but by peeling back revealing layers of humanity.

A somewhat aloof allegory that, though visually appealing and serving a trio of fine, understated performances, never fully immerses us in the drama.

The film comes across like a porch rocker served with a virgin Arnold Palmer and not a stiff cocktail of mental games or cat-and-mouse posturing for dominance and survival.

Zobel's deliberate pacing is meant to highlight the all-important subtext of the story but occasionally feels more like foot dragging than a style choice.
