Biography:

Margaret is a Sydney girl from birth, which she admits was many years ago, way before there was an Opera House on Bennelong Point. After abandoning a degree in Economics at Sydney University she was embraced by the newly established Macquarie University, who she says must have been desperate for students at that time. There she gained an Arts degree in German and Psychology. In the middle of her studies, she spent two and a half years in Vienna where she had her first taste of working in the media. She was a stringer for the Bulletin and for ABC Rural Radio, where she supplied gripping stories about the sale of Aussie hoses to Hungarian farmers and the implications of the success or failure of the Russian wheat crop. The years in Europe were significant ones. Back in Australia, she met and married filmmaker Hans Pomeranz and became involved with and enthusiastic about the ?new wave? of Australian filmmaking that was happening during the 1970?s. Margaret attended the Playwright?s Studio at NIDA and began writing for television, radio and film. She regards herself as an escapee from screenwriting. When given the chance to work with the newly established Special Broadcasting Service soon after it began in October 1980, the joy of being producer as well as writer was a very satisfying experience. She produced and wrote a number of programs for SBS before establishing The Movie Show with David Stratton in 1986, which they fronted until 2004. During that time Margaret was Executive Producer with SBS for such programs as Front Up, Subsonics, the AFI Awards and the If Awards. Margaret is currently the co-host with David Stratton of At The Movies on ABC 온라인카지노추천, where they moved in July 2004. Margaret has served as a member of the Advertising Standards Board, is a past President of the Film Critics Circle of Australia, and is a past President, currently vice-President of Watch on Censorship. She is also a member of the inaugural board of the Australian Writers? Foundation. More importantly she is the mother of two sons whom she likes and loves very much.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) 61% 2.5/5 “I just wish that George Lucas would remember his origins. Basic myth, good story. Forget the CGI, just go back to the magic.” – sbs.com.au Apr 22, 2025 Full Review American Psycho (2000) 68% 4/5 “Christian Bale plays Bateman excellently, pitching his performance at just the level of surreality that the character requires. For Harron, this film is a marked leap... it's really an excellent adaptation.” – sbs.com.au Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Moulin Rouge (2001) 75% 4.5/5 “Moulin Rouge is a spectacular achievement.” – At the Movies (Australia) Aug 30, 2023 Full Review In the Mood for Love (2000) 92% 5/5 “The journey we take in this film with these two fairly inaccessible people is amazingly powerful. It's hard to pinpoint just how Wong does it. ” – At the Movies (Australia) Jul 15, 2023 Full Review The Matrix (1999) 83% 4/4 “I found The Matrix more interesting than a lot of other action films because the plot wasn't laid out simplistically just so the bad guys could get their comeuppance from the goodies.” – sbs.com.au Jul 13, 2023 Full Review Armageddon (1998) 43% 4/5 “I laughed, I didn`t cry one tear, even though I suspect I was supposed to at one point, and I felt like I`d had a terrific time at the movies by the end. It`s entertainment pure and fairly simple.” – sbs.com.au Jun 20, 2023 Full Review Eve's Bayou (1997) 84% 3.5/4 “This is a fine film, it`s nicely written and excellently photographed by Amy Vincent.” – At the Movies (Australia) Jan 9, 2023 Full Review Gladiator (2000) 80% 5/5 “It is gripping stuff, with Russell Crowe so muscular and heroic in the central role and Joaquin Phoenix giving a really interesting interpretation to Commodus.” – At the Movies (Australia) Nov 1, 2022 Full Review Mercury Rising (1998) 21% 2/5 “I must admit I was underwhelmed by Mercury Rising - in fact the temperature actually sank.” – At the Movies (Australia) Apr 23, 2020 Full Review The Story of Us (1999) 26% 3.5/5 “I actually found the film very moving, very honest, except maybe for its resolution.” – At the Movies (Australia) Apr 7, 2020 Full Review Pulp Fiction (1994) 92% 3/5 “I was looking forward to this like you wouldn't believe... but it all goes on for so long and it's not terribly witty.” – At the Movies (Australia) Apr 24, 2019 Full Review Species (1995) 42% 3.5/5 “I must admit I really enjoyed Species. I like being manipulated by a clever director, even though it isn't the best of its genre.” – At the Movies (Australia) Dec 3, 2018 Full Review Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989) 96% “[It's] something that is intensely interesting for most of us yuppies.” – At the Movies (Australia) Feb 16, 2018 Full Review Wings of Desire (1987) 95% 5/5 “I love that search for what makes a human.” – At the Movies (Australia) Nov 2, 2017 Full Review Romper Stomper (1992) 79% 4.5/5 “This is in no way a pleasant film experience. It is relentlessly psychologically violent, almost nauseatingly so on occasion. However it is one of the finest films to be made in this country in recent years.” – At the Movies (Australia) Aug 8, 2017 Full Review Gallipoli (1981) 91% “It moved me so terribly.” – At the Movies (Australia) Jul 7, 2017 Full Review Sample People (2000) 4/5 “Writer/director Clinton Smith has chosen a hyped-up reality look in terms of colours and angles, that matches his inner-city drug-laden music-driven material.” – At the Movies (Australia) Apr 6, 2017 Full Review L'Avventura (1960) 94% “The film just looks great. That black and white cinematography is just divine.” – At the Movies (Australia) Apr 5, 2017 Full Review Buffalo 66 (1998) 77% 4/5 “Performances are outstanding, particularly those of Gallo and Ricci. It`s so refreshing and invigorating to see a film like this.” – At the Movies (Australia) Aug 30, 2016 Full Review Dead Man Walking (1995) 95% 4/5 “It doesn't flinch from presenting the crime committed, and yet, it's a film that undoubtedly is against capital punishment.” – At the Movies (Australia) Feb 12, 2016 Full Review Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) 79% 3.5/5 “I must say that I did get quite emotional in this.” – At the Movies (Australia) Nov 16, 2015 Full Review Casino Royale (2006) 94% 4/5 “This is a much more serious Bond than we've seen in many years. Daniel Craig inhabits the dark side of the secret agent really well, he is absolutely the best Bond since Connery.” – At the Movies (Australia) Nov 2, 2015 Full Review Quantum of Solace (2008) 63% 3/5 “I also was really disappointed in the villain in this because I just felt I could blow him over with a little puff of air, and that's not a good feeling with a Bond movie.” – At the Movies (Australia) Nov 2, 2015 Full Review The Simpsons Movie (2007) 87% 3.5/5 “A very knowing, self-aware cinema experience, [and] fans of the series will love it.” – At the Movies (Australia) Aug 2, 2015 Full Review The Incredibles (2004) 97% 4/5 “It is a simply astounding feat of animation with such attention paid to details like the lighting and even the hair of characters.” – At the Movies (Australia) Jul 29, 2015 Full Review
