Fame Reviews
The soundtrack is marvellous while this remake is suck a shame.
Completely overwrought and predictable. The writing is subpar. The acting was okay, but they missed out on some potentially great storylines. I watched out of nostalgia for my mom who loved the show. It did not live up to the '80s show in any way.
If you have no interest in making Fame why make a film called Fame?
The choreography is quite good, stylish - it was fun watching rooms full of people dancing away to sings and I admit I may have participated with the singing as well at times!. There is a plot, rather than it just costantly going from song to song, those are the main plus points. There are undoubtedly a number of cliches present, men 'admiring' female dancers for their suggestive moves and vice versa, etc. it doesn't exactly greatly break new ground but its alright as a film following a group of singers/performers trying to improve their craft and be taken seriously, professionally. The vocals and dancing are the main appeals and their not bad, so I'd say its alright but its hardly a particularly good film as far as it having a clear plot direction as such. There are a lot of characters and it doesn't really center on any one person for the duration, so it feels like as a viewer we only see, or know, snippets about peoples personal lives, their background etc., which is a shame. It felt at times that there was a sort of forced melodrama present which didn't sit with me too well, almost as if its trying a bit too hard to be hard hitting but it doesn't quite succeed. Some of the cast (the young, teenage students) clearly aren't exactly top grade actors, sadly - not all but some scenes I felt could (perhaps should) have been cut. I also felt, more specifically, that Kelsey Grammar was trying a bit too hard to be seen as the strict, perfectionist teacher unhappy with anything but the best from his students. It felt, to me, insincere, although im not arguing that he can't act as obviously he's a famous actor from other films and the 온라인카지노추천 series Frasier etc. I suppose its mainly a musical/music based film and as that its alright (with the caveat of some scenes being slightly better than others), so it could be worse but as a film I'd say its not particularly good either. As the film continues, I felt it, if anything, seemed obviously desperate to try to stand out and I lost some of the enthusiasm I'd initially felt for it. If it concentrated purely on the musical numbers and all but cut the rest of the plot out, or certainly lowered the number of characters at play, it would've come across better/slicker. It just didn't really work for me, although I can't deny that the initial dance scenes and some of the singing/musical numbers are fairly decent.
It’s heart is in the right place, But all the dancing and music cannot save this film from feeling like polished Disney kids afternoon special. Missing is the grit and real life teen struggles that made the original film stand out back in 1980
Derivative and disappointing as if it was made by committee; dance sequences are the only worthwhile portion
A little to young for me.
I wish I could say Fame was good but I just can't. This movie attempts to flesh out several character arcs but most of them are left feeling incomplete by the end or overall feeling dull. This movies characters all just feel so disconnected from audience, like I felt like I knew little to nothing about these people the whole time besides their class schedule. Denise is the only character who kept me watching, her character arc while very generic was the most engaging of the bunch. Even so I felt the writers didn't put enough weight onto the characters actions as even denises reveal to her parents felt bland and uneventful. Jenny and her boyfriends arc was so uneventful, it never picked up and there was no resolution. We didn't see Jenny fully deal with her stage fright and overall unwillingness to get loose, we only saw glimpses. Her boyfriend was just a prop that didn't add anything to the plot, only being used as a way to give one of the characters (Jenny) a love interest. As for the dancer boy (the one who almost killed himself) - sorry I forgot his name. That plot line was so rushed and didn't make much sense. Why did they completely give up on his dreams of being a broadway dancer/ballet dancer. He just throws away his dreams bc his teacher tells him he shouldn't pursue it. It would have made more sense if he attempted to be a ballet dancer and if he failed then yes he could go and be a teacher but he missed his chance to even try, which is just a horrible message to the audience. I really really wanted this movie to be good but it just didn't become much of anything despite an overfill of characters.
It's Basically A Variety Show, Shifting From One Short-Skit Performance To The Next. There Is No Story, A Range Of New Faces..Mostly Image Conscience Teens Or Early 20-Somethings & A Big Finale Of Singing, Dancing & Hugging. It Is What It Is..A Modern-Day Remake, With Little Substance Other Than An Attempted Cash-Grab At The Infamous Original In Being A (Attempted) Remake.
Admittedly I've not seen the original Fame movie yet but this was on Netflix so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm a sucker for musicals, high school/college dramas and talent competitions so this should have been a winning movie for me. Unfortunately the editing was a complete mess, jumping too quickly from year to the next to get me to care about any of the characters. Some of the performers were very, very good but the singing star of the show couldn't actually sing that well and I found myself cringing every time she started warbling.

One of the few times when the remake is better than the original. Not only is the new "Fame" an appropriate length this time, but the actors actually look like high school students rather than adults pretending to be teenagers.
Despite the negative response this film got, I still loved it! Not only was there a lot of exceptional talent among the actors & great music, there was also some impressive cinematography, camerawork, & editing!
A community of gifted students in the school of Juliard, surcome to the pressures of making it big early in their life, but set backs of the dark side to fame they must face before they move forward. When making it big, you rely on those to get you their, and your friends and family.

Cliched, saccharine, passionless, stupid, fake, even emotionless - flash and glitz w absolutely NO substance. Why, just why... I bought it thinking that maybe it will have a decent dance sequence - nope. Go on YouTube and watch any episode of SYTYCD, Any season. You will find all the things that are missing from this film: heart, passion, dancing, intelligence, whimsy, comraderie, more passion, harsh reality tempered by thoughtfulness wisdom and kindness - it has everything this movie wants to be, and you can save the rental fee. Dont bother with this stinkbomb.
Good musical with great voices, but with a boring story and screenplay was all of the time the same thing, nothing new on this genre.
