Ong Bak 2 Reviews
Ong Bak 2 is a 2008 Thai martial arts film co-directed by Panna Rittikrai and Tony Jaa, who also stars in the lead role. It is the standalone prequel to the 2003 film Ong-Bak and is set in 15th century Thailand. Which makes no sense since its a prequel to a film set in the 21st century. In the film, Tien trains himself in martial arts, where he becomes a lethal soldier and sets out to avenge his parents' death. Vision wrote: "Tony Jaa holds up to Jet Li's Fearless. Almost comparable. The action choreography, the fight training and the battle sequences are all worth the watch. Especially near the end of the film, Tony Jaa makes his mark as a legend of martial arts on screen. The only thing that made no sense was the timeline setting. This film is supposed to be set in the 15th century and Jaa's name is Tien and not Ting. More of a set piece for Tony Jaa to display his martial arts qualities. A mud splattered mess. Three and a half fries!"
Vale apena assistir? A ação vale apena. Nota: 6,5
Probably the best fight choreography I've ever seen. Amazing.
A solid if some times confusing sequel with some great fight sequences
Excellent story and awesome martial arts scenes, enjoyed this one more than the first and look forward to the 3rd one
Great action and fighting, but really no story and not a well structured film (scenes just happen, and last a while). Dumb and emotionless but a great excuse for choreographed brutal fights. No one watched it for the story! We wanted Muay Thai action and that's what we got.
This is easily one of the greatest martial arts films ever made. Tony Jaa set out to make his dream film, one containing several styles in one character. He definitely succeeded and God bless him for his efforts. The stunts are nice as always and the fight scenes are spectacular. The soundtrack isn't bad either. It also must be noted that the finale of this film is absolutely INCREDIBLE. One of the best fight scenes ever put to film and it combines more fighting styles than you can count. This is a must see for any martial arts fan. Unless you're some jack ass expecting an award winning plot from this movie, you will definitely enjoy it.
The ending is so bad it leaves a sour taste, not that the rest of the movie was good anyway, but the fights are good, has no charm whatsoever though and to be honest Jaa's character isn't even likeable
I do not understand the hate. This has to be one of my top 10 favourite martial arts films of all time. So the story (which is actually compelling, if a little cliched) gets a bit lost in the translation and the character development is minimal, it's still got a lot more going for it than most western actioners! The first half is essentially a training montage intercut with flashbacks to explain our heroes great and furious anger. But a very very good training montage. This all leads up to one, prolonged, glorious beatdown. And it is breathtaking. Literally, I didn't breath.
this is just as great as the first one and it still has that spark and energy that made the first one so awesome, there's also even more impressive edge of your seat action than the first movie, and the 13 minute set piece fight at the end of this movie is unbelievably badass and one of the best fight scenes I've watched in a long time, it's better than the crazy 88 fight from kill bill and the burly brawl from the matrix 2 for crying out loud lol
The fight scenes didn't do it for me there was less of the infamous knee to the face walloping and more boring swordplay!
An utter let down compared to the original. Fast forward and watch the last twenty minute fight scene if you just want to see some cool moves and action, otherwise this movie is skippable.
I have not seen the first Ong Bak, or the third film, but I must say that I enjoyed the action spectacle that is Ong Bak 2. This film succeeds quite well as being an action spectacle thanks to the awesome fight scenes, stylish and beautiful visuals, solid direction from Tony Jaa, and solid acting for the most part. However, this film does suffer in the storytelling department because the plot feels rather tired and thin in comparison to the beautiful spectacle the film is a whole. Sometimes, the story even gets in the way of the film, and I couldn't help but wonder if this was supposed to be a longer film because it feels like parts of it are missing (No, this is not due to the fact that it's a sequel. This is actually a prequel, so it has less of an excuse for plot issues), because there are all sorts of random flashback scenes that could use more explanation. I wish it had been a longer film, that way the story could have been fleshed out a lot more. Despite its flaws in the storytelling department, it's hard to fault Ong Bak 2 too much because it still works quite well as an action film because the action is exciting and it's also strikingly beautiful to look at as well. I had a lot of fun, but it definitely needed more polish. However, I am now intrigued to see the other Ong Bak films.
