The Birds Reviews
While many see this as a slow picture, Alfred Hitchcock used that technique to build suspense. The absence of music creates an eerie atmosphere, enhancing the location's presence and making it scarier than necessary! I do wish Hitchcock filmed the original ending, though.
Very slow start and lacked the suspense that I had expected.
Brilliant movie! Beautiful actress great acting all round. way ahead of its time!
The moment Tippi(Melanie) Entering the room full of crazy birds??!! After all the attacks ) looks so unreliable so stupidity! like in most horror movies… that brings you a big laugh instead, and the movie filmed most with so old grotesque techniques. Begins lovely that’s all, A Stupid 2hrs! movie of Mr Hitchcock, a waste of time.
I love Hitchcock movies, but this one was way over rated. Such a flat ending and the pot line / love interest was very thin, never explaining any backstory as to what people were eluding to. Sorry to go against the grain, but I was super disappointed this The Birds...
1963?! Some parts of this movie looked like it was in the 2000's! For it's time, the acting, story, and makeup was all done perfectly! GREAT MOVIE! It's a must see!
A classic Alfred Hitchcock. A must see!
It was very well done for its time. The ending was terrible.
What a different take on horror for the time. Alfred Hitchcock masterfully centers this modern horror classic around his muse, Tippie Herdron. The film is ahead of its time with its stunning visual effects, despite the fact that they may appear crude by today's standards. The film really pushed the envelope into the scary and the grisly. Rod Taylor is very compelling. The entire cast is terrific. Catch Hitchcock in his signature cameo in the opening Pet Store Scene. This is a must watch in filmmaking and horror. Aside from Psycho it is Hitchcock's most memorable film, in my opinion.
Despite being a Hitchcock film, this doesn't arouse any suspense. It freaked me out because I deem birds attacking people as something that, while unlikely, is still within the realm of possibility.
As I add classic movie "notches" under my metaphorical audience "belt", I find myself sadly underwhelmed after completing Hitchcock's The Birds. Throughout the building suspense of the film I thought "this would make for a great remake!" Alas, as the suspense continued to build into what I personally would describe as a very flat ending, I found my original thought changing drastically. Perhaps this "thrilling" classic was a "had to be there" type of experience. I felt the building up of relationships and character development were for naught. In the end none of it had any significance. I imagine the ending is mysterious and could be charming in a "choose your own adventure" type of way but I was quite unsatisfied with the films conclusion. The visuals were spectacular especially for the era in film, but I do feel the exceptional cinematics were overshadowed by a story line and subplot that just feels, unfinished.
While more drama than scares, The Birds delivers a delightful experience with its performances and thrills. 9.5/10.
Cool movie, perfect use of tension in cinema. One of the first animals-attack-horror movies! A must-see.
It certainly wasn't what I expected but Hitchcock is really a director who surprises me several times with his suspense...
Driven by the enigmatic Melanie Daniels, portrayed with both steel and elegance by Hedren, “The Birds” is more than a tale of terror; it also critiques how newness is often unfairly judged and feared. Tandy’s role as the overprotective mother effectively highlights this discomfort and skepticism toward change.
Basically what happens when you put a 50s creature feature in the hands of a filmmaking legend. The movie is very slow to actually start the action, at about 50 minutes in, but everything after this makes it absolute worth it. There's really not that many themes or interpretations you can get out of this; i see this movie as a subversion/more deep and humane take in the Creature-Feature subgenre. If you are also obssessed or at least familiar with the subgenre, you will notice many similarities and subversions with this type of movies that happen in the plot of this film.
good movie effects are dated scary parts good hitchcock thriller
How a 45-years-old man and an 11-year-old girl are brother and sister?
Very scary, but weak ending.
