Dressed to Kill Reviews
De Palma shows the kind of restless intelligence which suggests that he will want to work in many different forms, and certainly he needs more chances to work on a larger scale... But he doesn’t have to move away from thrillers to prove he’s an artist.

De Palma at the top of his game, with some masterfully edited and scored sequences that still hold up by modern standards.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 11, 2023
Exquisitely directed by DePalma and bearing the key signifiers of a prototypical Erotic Thriller, Dressed to Kill does contribute to the problematic depiction of trans women as killers, though it's not as influential as Psycho or The Silence of The Lambs
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 6, 2023
... few have married the mechanics of suspense with such cinematic grace as De Palma, whose silky images and deliriously choreographed moving camera takes are both beautiful and unnerving, and not just in matters of tension and surprise

Dressed to Kill remains a prime example of how De Palma is able to marry his awesome technical prowess to the material, using his dazzling feats of cinematic derring-do to propel his stories rather than bury their weaknesses.

Dressed to Kill will put those with a taste for Grand Guignol into a state of blissful delirium -- and most of the rest of us into a state of shock. But it's as sexy as it is shocking.

It's the way that De Palma handles this old material that makes Dressed to Kill such a superb movie.

Treated simply as a suspense tale, Dressed to Kill is nearly perfect. There are however, disturbing aspects of the work, including some rather insulting sexist overtones which permeate the film.
| May 20, 2022
It’s slick, beautifully filmed, and knows exactly what it is doing.

Episode 8: Sex, Lies and Predator
| Original Score: 60/100 | Aug 28, 2021
...a jaw-droppingly slick thriller...
| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 15, 2021
A hysterical nightmare of repressed sexuality and gender identity, it is arguably De Palma's masterpiece, but certainly a film you won't forget.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 21, 2020
The murder mystery at the forefront is tiresomely plain and detached, even if viewers can't guess the culprit prior to the big reveal.
| Original Score: 2/10 | Sep 6, 2020
From my point of view, Dressed To Kill is not only a generally pernicious film, it is also a film which presents a serious threat to an already misunderstood minority.

Dressed to Kill is, happily, a very well-made movie which utilizes its various New York City locales splendidly.

The film has a promising beginning. However, as the story develops, it turns more implausible and superficial... arriving at an ending that adds nothing. [Full Review in Spanish]

Sets a fairly low ceiling for how emotionally engaging it is ever going to become.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 17, 2019
Dressed To Kill is a nail-biting, seat-squirming, stylish murder mystery with a brain.
| Apr 28, 2018
Dressed to Kill finds an ultimate shame and gravitational fatalism in performed sexual desire.
| Jul 20, 2016
A lurid film featuring throat-slashing, overheated lust, and a too-simple reduction of cross-dressing issues for pulpy purposes. But it also uses grand cinematic gestures to relay the dread and guilt of its characters to great effect.
