Flash Gordon Reviews
A hell of a good time right here. I’ll definitely return to this one in the future lol, whoever did the visuals for this film was a damn genius by the way. It’s one of the most visually appealing films ever, if only it wasn’t held back by the technology of the time. Imagine all those vibrant and beautiful colors being aided by the stuff Hollywood’s using now. Anyways, Aura was a lot hotter than Dale, but I’ll admit it was pretty close. Whatever though this was a great movie. 3.5/5 stars.
While a couple of the alien costumes and special FX are outright tacky and unrealistic-looking, the script and top quality acting makes up for it! Even though it may seem unoriginal at first glance, (and it is due to it being the classic scenario of saving the world from aliens), the final scene at the end involving Emperor Ming's ring, the unseen person laughing eerily and evilly, I can safely say, was the single best cliff-hanger I've ever seen in a film. And I'm perfectly comfortable with saying that any attempt to produce a sequel (regardless of whether it was done in the 1980s or today) would be a filthy insult to the screenwriter's ingenuity. HE'S SAVIN' THE UNIVERSE!!!
ME GUSTO MUCHO FLASH GORDON ME GUSTARÍA VERLA OTRA VEZ EN PRIME VIDEO
It's cheesy for its time and there were moments of dodgy acting skills. Nevertheless, the film was ahead of its time like Star Wars and had me entertained. Though I wish they had fleshed out more on the titular character than just an ordinary guy trapped in another world in outer space.
Wie "Ted" schon sagte: So schlecht und doch so gut!(Oder so ähnlich;))
The lead actors are mediocre at best, but I absolutely love this movie. Fantastic supporting actors led by Max Von Sydow and a very sexy Ornella Muti. The soundtrack by Queen and the beautiful sets make this one of the most rewatchable films ever.
Never seen but FLASH AHHHHHHH
Even the songs by Queen can't save this dreck.
It's a wild adventure, saturated with color and camp, and all to a Queen sound track. If you don't like this movie, I posit that you are, in fact, the problem.
As camp as a row of tents but it's got a knowing twinkle in its eye and the cast look like they're having a great time. As do I everytime I watch it. Special effects are either not that great or are paying homage to the original RKO series, you decide which... Sets wobble, outfits look like an ABBA tribute night, the acting varies wildly and yet it's whole massively outweighs the sum of its parts, somehow its all hugely entertaining. The cast are all great in their own way and there are some performances which have gone down in cult lore to become iconic. The music is fantastic as well, Queen really got the feel of the movie and it wouldn't have been the same without the soundtrack. It's a cult movie for a reason and most of all it's a fantastically entertaining watch. As the great Brian Blessed's Voltan is oft quoted, 'Gordon's alive'.
It's honestly better than STAR WARS.
Much to my surprise, this is actually quite funny. A ridiculous romp into space with an American footballer who saves earth surrounded by space honeys. Watched on DVD.
Flash gordon is possible one of the most over the top sci-fi films ever made. But the theme song by queen is amazing and if your looking for a fun but ridiculous film this is a good place to start
The ONLY good thing about this movie of my generation, was the wardrobe department 🙄👍
Sam Jones plays the 1930's comics strip character in his full-length feature film true it's been done before in black-and-white and on radio shows but here it's on a bigger scale with giant sets, state of the art special effects, and a colorful cast Flash Gordon is a famous football celebrity on Earth but his planet is invaded by an intergalactic overlord called Ming the Merciless played by Max Von Sydow he's then unexpectedly launched into space with travel agent Dale Arden along with Dr. Hanz Zarkof whose theories about this interstellar event have been dismissed multiple times all of them land on the planet Mongo to rectify the destructive forces threatening Earth Mongo sees every world and its population not meeting up to his expectations dangerous and unworthy, he has a secret police force, a machine that empty's people's memories, and has dominion over the other kingdoms Timothy Dalton plays Prince Barin who's engaged with Ming's daughter, Aura who switches sides back and forth with hopes that Flash will assist them in taking down the tyrannical overlord what's interesting is that the director Mike Hodges and producer Dino De Laurentiis rely a lot on models, miniature sets, comic book like attire, and flashy set pieces you can tell the filmmakers are reveling in the adventure serials of old this actually brought me back to Barbarella with Jane Fonda having that same vibe this was George Lucas' original intent to do Flash Gordon but after getting turned down he decided to go with the franchise-that-would-be Star Wars both act as swashbuckling adventures but this one manages to parody it it has that tongue-in-cheek humor balancing with earnest grandeur cleverly paced, a feast for the senses, appropriately cheesy, and out of all the superhero movies that have come out it's the closest one resembling the look and feel of its source material Okay so the effects look dated and the plot is very silly with its lead being a hero on another planet but it’s all good fun basking in the cheesiness a fun cult hit for the ages
Fun as garish camp only. The action can't hold a candle to Star Wars, 2001, Star Trek or Alien... Or even Moonraker or Battlestar Galactica!..Or even Dark Star, Outland or Logan's Run for that matter!... And it looks kind of like a jokey, cheap version of Dune... And I mean, even considering it's era, this is sort of substandard. It only kind of works if you consider it a big joke... And the acting is bad. And the director Mike Hodges is just lazily trotting out some old comic book archetypes and some lazy old comic book plotting ...He's not really trying to give this material a shot in the arm and make it come stunningly to life, like George Lucas was trying so hard to do with Star Wars. (Keeping in mind Lucas was originally planning to do his own reboot of Flash Gordon; before that idea got shot down; so he created his own epic space opera with Star Wars.. And look what a difference that made!! How ironic that HIS knock-off version of Flash Gordon wound up COMPLETELY besting the original in almost every way... The Lord works in mysterious ways!...) But if you do see this iteration of Flash Gordon as a silly, sly, space-satire joke; a la Barbarella or Santa Claus Conquers the Martians; or an old Batman episode...I guess it sort of works that way.... Like I said it is certainly fun... And needless to say, the Queen theme song is epic and legendary. Overall: Recommended for camp enthusiasts only. It fails as sci-fi but works as comedy and has even developed a big cult following over the years. Ever seen the movie Ted?
A very enjoyable film, with a beautiful technicolor.
Flash Ahhhhh Must Watch If You're A Queenie or Into Scifi or Spacey Stuff like Star Trek or Even Star Wars Queen Literally Did The Theme Song For This Master Piece
I watched this movie in 1982 on 온라인카지노추천, an afternoon special one Saturday. I was 7 years old. I absolutely loved it. An incredible adventure filled with imagination. Now, as an adult of course it is very different. But I'll always remember how I felt after I watched it that day back in 1982. I was filled with energy and inspiration. I vividly remember going outside into the front yard and playing, imagining I was Flash Gordon. I remember feeling euphoric as I climbed onto my dad's pick up truck, parked in the driveway. For me it was a spaceship and I had a laser gun in hand, the theme music of Flash Gordon filled my mind as I dodged foes and slayed them all. I even remember noticing that during my adventure no one passed by in the neighborhood and I was so grateful. I used to be bothered by people when I played, they broke my imaginary world and brought me back to reality. But somehow I had the block to myself that day. Not even a single car drove by. One of the best days of my life.
I've been long overdue a rewatch of Flash Gordon and there seemed no better time than one's birthday. Flash Gordon is the epitome of cult cinema, campy in all the right places but loveable nonetheless. It's played for laughs and wisely so, this is a pure space opera and one of unlimited imagination harnessed to definitely limited skills. It's fun to see it done with energy and love and without the pseudo-meaningful apparatus of the Force and Trekkie Power. The film had a long and tumultuous production history with Sergio Leone refusing and Dino De Laurentiis rejecting a pitch from George Lucas who went on to make Star Wars. With material like this, they'd be flying blind on a rocket cycle. Laurentiis, seemingly realising his mistake, fast-tracked this film's production after the runaway success of Lucas' movie which ultimately resulted in the hiring of director Mike Hodges, mostly known for his gritty grim dramas and Lorenzo Semple Jr, writer of the 60s Batman show. The end result is unique and profoundly uplifting with the appeal of a mainstream easygoing adventure and the aesthetic of pseudo-superhero mega campery. Everything's perfect, the music by British rock legends Queen, the performances (highlights being Max von Sydow, Timothy Dalton, Topol, Peter Wyngarde and of course, the legend himself, Brian Blessed) and particularly the hypnogogic visuals which feel ripped from works of surrealist Gordon Onslow Ford. Flash Gordon is cheesy in all the right ways but carries with a use of bold and brash colours that feel as if you're watching the most elaborate pantomime ever constructed. I love it. DEATH TO MING!
