King Kong Reviews
I'm sorry, but I liked it! Charles Grodin is hilarious, Jessica Lange is gorgeous and a young Jeff Bridges stirs the pot. An upright walking Kong gets trapped atop the World Trade Center in this version. I used to own the VCR tape and would pop it in late at night; campy fun from back in the day.
This is beyond bad. Every scene, every word, every written line, every expression gives the impression that there was only time for one single take. God oh God does Lange act badly. Oh my God.
This two hour movie felt like a four hour movie. There’s not much that was terribly bad about it, but there’s not much that was good either. It was just a slog. It reminds me a lot of the Disney live action remakes. The characters are bland and static. The story doesn’t add anything noteworthy to the original. They set it in the present (1976) but don’t do anything interesting with the time period. The only compliments I have for the movie is that the actors do a fine job and the Kong suit doesn’t look bad.
I saw this cinematic gem when I was 10 years old in, 1976... I was always a wide eyed little kid that loved sci-fi. I grew up with the classics. Universal Studios and the legacy monster films of days ago... King Kong, though, 1933 RKO. Is my always, and forever, most favorite, monster movie of all time... I wanted to do make up effects when I was growing up. I mean, my goodness... All the great stuff that was then, was ground breaking. But, my oh my... Here we see a new and improved way of special effects. Rick Baker. My special effects hero. He and Stan Winston. Both, the greatest of all time. The musical score by John Barry was amazing... The great acting talents, established talent, and future academy award winning actors and visual effect artistry... Is a trestament to how wonderfully underrated this gem of a movie really is... It's worth a look.
Jessica as Fay classic waterfall scene needs to be seen Jeff Bridges classic performance! I call this squirrel Kong must see!
The 1976 remake of "King Kong" is the original redone but without the necessary ingredients which made the 1933 classic a classic in the first place.
Respectful remake with modern(70's) touches. Kong remains sympathetic and Rick Baker did a great job as the king.
This is the greatest movie (say it with me now) OF ALL TIME! I love the visual effects, and the story.
The best King film, according to my taste, the effects are a bit primitive, but I think it's better than the old and the new ones. John Barry's music is just perfect
Extremely underrated movie, Kong is the scariest he has ever been, and just realistic in general, with the whole dark and gothic ambience and atmosphere in this version of Skull Island, plus King Kong's suit is very well made; The whole sequence of him rampaging through New York is impressive and really adds more to King Kong's brutal personality in this one.
Non è un film fedele al film originale. All'inizio sembra un film affidabile,ma inizia a essere brutto,e Kong è orribile, oltre a essere un Kong-Zilla (per l'altezza) e soprattutto... DOVE SONO I DINOSAURI!??
40% rating ... It was decent, but nothing to get excited about. There are better Kong movies out there.
Love it! Great movie! I hate Jackson's 2005 version. This is the best version.
The 70s version of "King Kong" is the campiest of the three without a doubt. I admire that it tried to make some creative changes, but the movie suffers for it. The movie's special effects are dated, but the storytelling feels off here. It doesn't have the iconic feel of the original and it doesn't do anything nearly as ambitious as the 2005 version. Overall, it is an interesting watch if you want to see all of the different versions of the story, but this is my least favorite of the three by far and is pretty forgettable and messy when compared to its old and new counterparts.
Its ok. I really wish there was dinosaurs in the movie, also it failed to capture the magic of the original 1933
Very underrated Kong movie
An Ok version far better than the 200s one.
Best remake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jessica Lange is the perfect Belle
Like "Jaws" the year prior, the rumor of this reboot sparked many cash-ins from all over the world. The character issues are all over the place. Mainly around massive dick Fred Wilson and the opposite side of that asshole coin was hippie Jack Prescott. The effects which not perfect by today's standards did perfect techniques started in Japanese Kaiju movies. Plus the retcons for oil is something I don't think was needed. Plus the oil shortage at the time really dates the movie to the 1970s. Far from perfect but it is cheesy fun and worth checking out an American version in the Showa era of Kaiju movies.
