Mannequin Reviews
The ratings from critics on this movie make me question ALL the ratings of other movies. Only people that watched this in the 80s should be allowed to comment. I just heard the theme song on the radio. And all the good feels came rushing back. This movie is from a better, simpler, happier time.
This is movie is pure cheezy gold.Must watch
'Mannequin' is pure cheese and very silly, but I can't deny it's a nice piece of light entertainment; it's cute, in its own way, too. Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall both fit their respective roles well, so does everyone else on the cast; Meshach Taylor is the standout of the rest. There really isn't much more to say. It's a simple movie and I simply enjoyed it. Oh, and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is a banger.
Got to watch Mannequin when I was young and it instantly became one of my favorites. The movie has a great cast and the story was simply what a RomCom needs, an easy to digest and yet flavorful fantasy that is perfect for the hopeless romantics with purest minds. The movie has many corny humors, but they somehow fit into this otherwise touching advanture of a young underdog pursuing his own romantic happiness. It’s a movie that can make one feel young and naive again~
Fun, lightheared movie, really enjoyed this
An attempt at a modern translation of Pygmalion and Galatea but it falls flat. Kim Cattrall is great but the rest of the cast are nonexistent.
One of the great rom coms from the 80’s. Great actors and soundtrack and I’ve watched this many times and it’s always entertaining and feel good movie!
80s magic all the way, couldnt exist in any other decade...a timeless piece of silly but memorable entertainment
There was some endearing 80s nostalgia, and McCarthy vs. Spader is always a good element to have in your film, but the plot about a department store dummy who comes to life was pretty weird.
This wonderfully lighthearted Romantic comedy is a must see. Every single character is memorable in their own very distinct way. This movie captures lighthearted, cartoon-like humor as well as slapstick comedy. For anyone who enjoys the romantic comedy genre, this movie is a cult classic!
This movie has the magical touch of the 80s. Highly recommend it
I liked it. I remember kinda watch it when I was younger but completely forgot about it. 80 and 90s movies are the best because they almost have a since of fate playing a hand that people overlook in today's world. The feeling of positivity that you are left with at the end is rarely felt after watching movies now ah days.
This is by all measures a terrible film. But I have loved it since first seeing it in the late 80s. It's plot makes no sense, the acting is over the top but it's pure 1980s cheese.
This movie is a beautiful slice of 1987. The cast is crammed with a number of people that have gone on to extensive and unique careers. But despite a shaky plot, it is a classic story of the wandering artist, trying to find a way to ply their trade, and finding a wacky experience that launches things in a different direction. The acting is average for the 1980s, the copy that I streamed on HBO was pretty crisp, the scenes of New York City remind me of the 1980s and it was simply a nice trip back to a time when things were simpler. There is something ineffable but beautiful about Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall dancing to bland 80s music…
Silly, goofy and incredibly charming. Theres believable chemistry between McCarthy and Cattrall, the soundtrack is great, and it's well paced. The cartoon skits are a little grating, but overall it's a joyful watch.
I enjoyed this movie as a kid & it got me into Jefferson Starship with that song "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now". 80's rom com. It's okay.
Awesome film! The feeling you get after watching it is so refreshing and magic. Highly recommended.
This movie is really comical. I enjoyed re-watching it as an adult. But probably not as much as I did when I was 13. Especially is certain ways that are very compelling to a developing young man. Anyway - the acting is so one-note. Everyone has "their" prop and they overuse it. The jokes are stale or in poor taste. I most enjoyed the dumb guard who was a direct port over from Police Academy. Everything was so thin in this film, the jokes, the motivations, the plot. What was the point of the plot? Escape an arranged marriage , search through time to find a nice guy, risk mortal danger to make yourself 'real' for him? IDK, the whole thing is totally ridiculous, and more importantly, not sold very well. The characters are very singular in the way they act, and pull me out of the movie.
Mannequin is a mystery. I understand why I liked it as a kid: Kim Cattrall was pretty, Andrew McCarthy was cool, and the movie was simple, silly fun. However, I have no idea how Mannequin was such a success at the box office for adults back in 1987. The premise is ridiculous to start, and then they try and pass off Johnathan Switcher (McCarthy) as a genius artist because of his semi-clever window displays. Plus, the assortment of villains all chew the scenery so much I'm surprised there was anything left. Still, this film gets a passing grade from me because of pure nostalgia and an enjoyable soundtrack.
