Meteor Reviews

…an absolutely laughable endeavour, Meteor is a can’t miss prospect when a sitting target for derision is required…

| Original Score: 2/5 | Oct 22, 2023

The cast includes Martin Landau (in the hammy portion of his career) as a Russkie-hating officer, Sybil Danning as a skier who gets buried under a mountain of Styrofoam -- excuse me, snow -- and “Henry Fonda as The President.”

Meteor is more like something made by Irwin Allen on one of his bad days, and you can't get much worse than that.

If you're ever asked just how bad the disaster movie could get, this is the answer.

| Original Score: 1/5 | May 25, 2015

An $18 million, star-studded disaster film, which in itself is a major disaster.

| Original Score: 1/5 | May 25, 2015

A chain reaction in space causes an asteroid field to send out a ton of space rock (and not the Pink Floyd kind) toward Earth.

| Original Score: 4/10 | Oct 9, 2014

The all-star cast can only do so much to liven up the proceedings, with director Ronald Neame gradually losing tension as the film drags out the obvious for far too long.

Chatty disaster pic that talks itself to death.

Meteor really combines several disasters in one continuous cinematic bummer.

See it on peril of death by boredom.

The suspense is sludgy and the character development nil; even the inadvertent comedy is spotty. The spectacle of Manhattan's demolition is interesting enough, but there's a lot of time-killing before the city actually goes up in flames.

entertainingly ludicrous

The presence of a star (Connery), a great actor (Howard) and Fonda doing his turn as the US president add no credibility to an old-fashioned concept.

| May 24, 2003

A grab-the-money-and-run disaster opus with a slumming Connery and Wood ludicrious as a Russian scientist. Too bad the set wasn't hit by a giant falling space rock.
