The real issue here is that Swing Time just doesn’t stand out from the rest of the pack. When it does deviate from the formula, it presents us with racist stereotypes and slow pacing.

Swing Time could do with a lot more dancing and a lot less plot; or, if that's too much to ask of the principals, just a lot less plot. However... Even if Swing Time had twice as much plot, it would still be worth seeing.

Another winner for the Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers combo. It's smart, modern, and impressive in every respect, from its boy-loses-girl background to its tunefulness, dancipation, production quality and general high standards.
