Faithful adaptation that is a lot of fun. The dark moments from the book are perfectly translated over. I LOVE it.

Super good movie!!! A must see

Along with 'The Grapes of Wrath' John Steinbeck created 2 of the best depictions of the hardships and the humanity of desperate migrations to survive the privations of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression Both film adaptations are top quality and draw the viewer back 70 years to a time before America was a super power and one of the most prosperous and powerful societies ever. The hard scrabble roots of our nation are a revelation.

Im not a big stienbeck fan

Though I'm not a prolific movie critic, I have something even more important. For nearly an academic term I studied the written version of this story, written by John Steinbeck. It gave me an insight on how The Great Depression of America affected the average proletariat, and also the average mentally challenged proletariat. This shows how Steinbeck was ahead of his time, by including a man with autistic tendencies into his story, furthermore making him a main character. But, what about the movie itself? For me the casting, voices, acting, and the overall appearance of the actors/characters make this film the "default version" of the story if you're looking for the best adaptation from book to live-action. What I also really like about this movie is the actor of Lennie, John Malkovich (also the writer of the 100 years movie). He perfectly reenacts how Lennie would be if he were real and even makes his lines funnier to watch. When compared to other adaptations of the story into film, I find his voice to be the perfect tone for his character, not too deep/masculine, and enough to sound childlike. In conclusion, I think that this movie is the right one to watch if you want see the story in live-action, and as a way to give a teacher a break while teaching/studying the book itself.

A wonderfully made drama. Exactly how I imagined it when reading the book.

What an impactful movie. Well done adaptation from the book. The acting and story was really really good and it had so many emotions.

Everything about the film really tries to stay true to the source material. Though it did miss out on quite a bit. Which I would've loved to seen. The film still encapsulates the emotions of all the characters incredibly.

Gary Sinise is a Steinbeck fan, and as the director of this film, he doesn't embellish or exaggerate. He just lets the story do the job. His approach is so straightforward that the ending has all the more impact. Sinise is superb in his role as George. The mentally challenged and childlike Lennie is a burden to him, but he can't imagine life without him. You can see the pain in Sinese's eyes---the pain of being a caretaker. You would not think John Malkovich would be a good choice to play Lennie, but he pulls it off surprisingly well. Ray Walston is also memorable as Candy. One thing I noticed when re-watching this film after many years was certain themes that were used in "The Green Mile." There is no doubt the Stephen King has read "Of Mice and Men," and it just shows what a colossal influence Steinbeck has been in both American literature as well as cinema.

When watching Of Mice and Men I noticed a lot of flaws right from the beginning for example instead of running from weed into a bus they where on a train that they had jumped on and also in the book the boss (Curley's father) was mentioned way more In the book than the film we only see him for a few minutes at the start. Another difference is Curely's wife she is very different too how she is portrayed in the book . it the movie she is very gentle and kind and you would feel very bad for her when hearing her past and seeing what she goes through but in the book she's nasty, flirty, racist, manipulative and gets people into trouble. An example of this is when she says to crooks that she will get him sacked when she and candy enter the room which as u can see doesn't happen in the movie also crooks doesn't ask to join their plan. In the book and movie Candy asks to join their plan and it is talked about a lot more in the film and only once in the novel. In the film you can tell that George dislikes candy its is quite obvious because when candy wanted to join their plan George was very reluctant until candy brought up his $300 and said he would give it to them that's when George took him seriously. In the film Curley's wife is very flirty with George and you can see that George is catching feeling for her but in the novel this never happens in fact George absolutely despises her. He stays well away from her and also keeps Lenny away from her. George even slaps Lenny for calling her pretty. If I had to choose between the novel and film I would pick the book. At first I picked the film because if you put the things the movie left out in the film It would be better and if u put the added extra parts into the book it improve. But what really altered my decision between the 2 was the ending. In the film George shoots Lenny and escapes on the train but in the book the ending gives hope because he kills Lenny and says it was self-defence and continues to live on the barn and probably still does the idea with candy and maybe crooks and slim join too id like to think that anyway…

Gary Sinise does a great job delivering an adaptation of Of Mice and Men that is true to the source material. He has a knack for playing companions to men who are mentally handicap.

Great movie. I craved for such for weeks.

This is a good movie based off of the classic novel. Nice performances by Gary Sinise and John Malkovich. It is still a pretty simple story, but very touching.

It doesn't matter if you love the book or not, this adaptation of it is great.

Malkovich is not believable as a huge half wit. his arrogance cannot be hidden behind a pretend mental shortage. Sinise is very good tho

This movie keeps you interested all the way up to the tragic ending. They do a great job creating this novel onto the big screen.
