5 stars because I was 17/18 years old when the movie came out. I understand if you think of it as a movie worth 3.5, if your generation was formed in its core either before 1992, or after. The soundtrack alone is worth a 5 star, and the way it capture its time follows shortly.
If there ever was a movie that captures the feel of a specific time in history, it was this one. I spent many, many weekends in college watching it over and over.
Rom Com Alert. Has some funny scenes, but not many. Instead of going for funniness, it leans very heavily into a strained romance between two pleasant, but boring, dull, and unadventurous characters. Side stories that had the potential to be funny or better are totally underdeveloped and just kind of sit in the margins. Dated, obviously, and this was not a realistic portrayal of the scene in Seattle at the time. It really looks fake now. It's light and kind of wholesome overall. Fun to watch the street scenes shot on location.
i liked this movie. the cameos from alice in chains and soundgarden were great. the car stereo gone bad scene with matt dillion and chris cornell was cool. bridget fonda was great in this film she was my favorite character too bad she doesnt act anymore. i loved the soundtrack and the characters and seattle setting were great. i highly recommend this film it can be slow at times but i liked the ending the matt dillion bridget fonda relationship was more interesting than the other one in film. see this film if you like romantic comedies interesting film.
Another overrated Cameron Crowe movie that goes nowhere and is completelly dull. Kyra Sedgwick is a Tom Cruise actor, nothing but smiles; irritating.
This is both a fine romantic comedy from the golden age of romantic comedies, and a great nostalgia trip back to the early ‘90s and back to the early ‘90s in Seattle, home of grunge rock and the accompanying subculture. With cameos from the likes of Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and airborne shots of the Space Needle this film nails it as far as setting goes. The characters are lovably eccentric as they try out a variety of dating experiences (like video dating, if you can believe that). Just an all around fun movie.
One of my favorite movies from the '90s. Pretty much love everything about it... Great cast, great soundtrack, great movie... Always love to watch this every so often and remember that early '90s era.
Hard to believe this is 28 years ago. I was in my early 20's with my first apartment at the time when this came out. So this hits home. Entire cast is great. Great music with the entire Seattle/grunge scene leading the way. I really miss that part of my life. Had lots of friends. Lots of parties to go to. Great local bar experience during that time ( I lived in the SF bay area at the time). Whenever this movie comes on it brings me to that part of my life. Long live Citizen Dick!!
This movie is not as good as I remember. The film is terribly miscast. Kyra Sedwick and Campbell Scott as the leads = boring. Bridget Fonda and Matt Dillon as the other couple...I just don't buy it. Matt Dillon is such one dimensional actor. The main thing that saves this movie is the early 90's Seattle music scene (along with a very good soundtrack). Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden in the early 90's...those are some of the amazing bands that appear in this film.
The actors are better than the script.
A love story between twenty somethings in 1990s Seattle. Good performances from Campbell Scott, Kyra Sedgwick, Bridget Fonda and Matt Dillon. There's a scene with Alice In Chains performing and there are cameos from Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell.
This Cameron Crowe film about an apartment full of friends in grunge Seattle looking for love is a wonderful, unorthodox rom-com that also acts as a great time capsule of the 1990s and the great music that came out at that time and place.
Thanks to Cameron Crowe, this movie best represents the Seattle scene in the early '90's. It's a romantic comedy placed within the Seattle music scene. The Soundtrack is one of the best(Pearl Jam,Soundgarden,Chris Cornell,Alice in Chains,Mother Love Bone,Mudhoney,Smashing Pumpkins, and Paul Westerburg). Cameron infuses the live club scene within the plot, including live performances from Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, and including cameos from Eddie Vedder,Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Chris Cornell. A true 90's Classic.
