Much Ado About Nothing Reviews
I found it the most boring movie and couldn't follow the plot. So many good actors but they lost me
I really wanted to love this but I didn’t. I like the enemies to lovers and playful vibe, but overall there’s too much silliness and crazy frolicking that it’s over the top and Kenneth Branagh is toooo much. There were some great convincing performances (Emma Thompson and Denzel Washington): Emma Thompson being witty while eating grapes in a tree is iconic, and I need to see more Denzel x Shakespeare or period pieces.
This version of my favorite comedy by The Bard is a dull and bland as its monochrome costumes. Although, Michael Keaton is a delight the rest feel uninspired
Kenneth Branagh assembles a very colorful ensemble adapting the play by William Shakespeare Believe it or not this is actually Kate Beckinsale's first feature film debut! She co-stars with Branagh, Emma Thompson, Imelda Staunton, Keanu Reeves, Denzel Washington, Michael Keaton, and Robert Sean Leonard The dialogue delivered by these upcoming actors is easy to understand without losing much of the charm and class Shakespeare shared It's hard to make material that's hundreds of years old palpable to a general audience but the actors are really committed right down to the costumes and the mannerisms of the era
Fun adaptation if the classic Shakespeare play, thanks to a game cast and direction, though more flawed than other works. The actors are all superb, with Branagh and Thompson a fun romantic pairing, while Denzel Washington brings some nice gravitas as the Don. Unfortunately, note every actor is up to the task, specifically Keanu Reeves, who can't quite pull off the dialogue. Behind the camera, Branagh once again does an excellent job adapting Shakespeare, making it accessible while staying true to the story and dialogue. Overall, a fun adaptation, despite the short comings of some of the cast.
A Classic Romance. The highlight is the amazing cinematography. It's gorgous, always sunny and bright and filled with life with great camerawork. Everything else is really well done. My only minor complaints is it can be a bit hard to follow all the other romances going on although they do a good job making them intersect and connect the events of each so it never feels like it's a anthology or unconnected romances. But personally I am someone who struggles to follow the Shakespheare play dialouge just by reading it as a lot of it is just over my head because of the flowerly english. Movies have helped me tremedously look past my inability to understand the play. The actors body language and visual representation of each scene is done really well so much so even if I don't fully understand what they are saying I still know what they are trying to get across. A testament to the story and direction. It's cool how you can see here the underlying traits of other Romance stories particulary Rom-Coms that would be borrowed. Anyone who is a fan of Shakspehare, wishes to understand it better, fan of any actors in this, or the director will like this a lot.
With writer-director-star Kenneth Branagh further flexing his Shakespearean know-how, Much Ado About Nothing is perhaps the finest adaptation of one of the bard's finest comedies.
It can feel like it's dragging at times with its pacing. Also like much of Shakespeare work it can be very overdramtic. None the less, it's still works pretty well with its performances, screenplay, design, and even the actors that make the experience worth while.

Faithfull to the Shakespearean source (except about four lines of then-current political stuff), this movie offers both outstanding humor and deep pathos not only from the writing, but from the direction and acting as well. It is my all-time favorite movie.
This adaptation of the Shakespearian play wins thanks to the brilliant ensemble cast and witty direction.
The humor is on point and intelligible even for those unfamiliar with his English. This play is essentially the beginning of what we now call the romantic comedy genre, and Branagh celebrates that with an unabashed aplomb that works in all of its cheesiness.
I have always felt comfortable among those in the category who generally loathe all things Shakespeare as I find the work I have to do mentally "converting" his use of early English into digestible lines rarely worth the reward. This is even more reason why Branagh deserves a ton of credit for making this romantic comedy so accessible, and after an unsure first fifteen minutes or so I was able to settle in mentally, as the plot and dialogue began to flow far easier. I have to admit I even laughed out loud once or twice as I found much of the dialogue, especially the banter, pleasingly witty and well delivered. Thompson was the strongest performance here with Branagh, Beckinsale, and Washington putting in good work too. Keaton absolutely chews up every bit of scenery around him as Dogberry, and I will just call it a fun treat to watch John Wick do Shakespeare. This still isn't a genre I would usually seek out but this is the most enjoyable Shakespeaere adaptation I remember seeing in film.
The cast was well suited for this movie. To see Shakespeare's work on film is always a treat. His lengthy prose is challenging for any actor. Giving it life with emotion, and dramatic acumen is entertaing as the Bard's purpose. Awesome!😎😎😎❤❤❤😁😁😁
It's been years since I've seen this but it has a wonderful cast and great acting. If you aren't familiar with the Shakespeare play the movie is based on (like myself), you may find it hard to follow, but it's worth watching. Beautiful scenery as well.
Without a doubt, this is my all-time favorite movie; I can watch it over and over. The drama and comedy are perfectly timed; the cinematography and setting are beautiful; the acting is powerful and moving. I'm always tremendously impressed that the screenplay sticks so very close to the original play. Other than a few lines of commentary on politics of the time, it's line-for-line, beat-for-beat exactly what Shakespeare wrote. Branagh and Thompson, Keaton and Washington are all amazing.
I've never been a big Shakespeare fan but I really like this film (and Henry V is also pretty good!). I like how comedic it is even in darker moments, I actually watched it originally during a History lesson in school 11 years ago but never forgot about it. Finally bought it on Bluray and rewatched it and it took me back. It has a brilliant cast, great story and a beautiful setting. I'm straight but I'll admit Kenneth Branagh was a sexy man when he was younger, especially in this film.
I'm not gonna claim the plot isn't problematic, but it's Shakespeare so what did you expect. I love this movie so much! Emma Thompson is in it and I think that's reason enough, but I'll go on. The whole cast does a great job bringing the play to life. I've was never invested in Hero and Claudio's relationship while reading the play or watching any production, but the chemistry between the actors was lovely and Hero seems a lot more fleshed out in this version. In most she's kind of a vehicle to the plot, or at best a faint hearted damsel in distress. In this version you really get a sense of her youth, liveliness and innocence, which makes her a really sympathetic heroine. Beatrice and Benedick are always a joy to watch and to quote. 10/10 would eat this heart in the marketplace again.
Not all the actors fit their roles but it is a great adaptation of my favorite Shakespearean comedy.
