Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book Reviews
This feels like a mixture of Tarzan and The Jungle Book wich would make people somewhat confused.
I only saw parts of this growing up and didn’t remember much then again it was 30 years ago Rudyard Kipling’s famous story the Jungle Book has been adapted several times Walt Disney Pictures did their animated version and 27 years later they did it again in live action before the 2016 version Jason Scott-Lee, a young Lena Headey, Cary Elwes, John Cleese, and Sam Neil Mowgli and Katherine or Kitt had both mothers who passed away As children they grew up together exploring the jungle but Shere Khan the tiger kills Mowgli’s father The boy gets lost in the jungles of India and grows up with panther Bagira and bear Baloo Mowgli here is focused on as a grown up and when he’s found by human civilization they find him fascinating teaching him to be civilized Mowgli though feels anything but a normal member of society and when his home is threatened by Captain Boone willing to raid the treasure he’ll need the help of his animal friends to save it Hardly anyone has been able to adapt the book successfully since much of it is very dark This one is more light and fluffy perhaps being the furthest removed from the original source material being more fun and campy It acts as a treasure hunt after Mowgli is taken out of his natural habitat Lee really carries the film being he has hardly any dialogue and has to rely on facial expressions and reactions, he’s actually really good conveying that goodness and strength can go hand in hand if you’re man, animal or neither The film does play like a 1940s adventure serial Overall this version of the classic story by Kipling isn’t the most accurate but it’s still entertaining with some very committed actors and spectacular settings
While I do prefer the 1967 animated film over this one by a long shot, I still found this to be a good adaptation. With a good plot, good acting, and good special effects.
Although it strays away from what its title suggests and what it should be, this live action take on the beloved "Jungle Book" story is a fun time.
i remember watching this film growing up its a classic. cool quicksand scene and the treasure at the end cool plot see it.
I love this movie! It's Jungle Book mixed with Tarzan & Indiana Jones. I grew up watching this movie and it makes me very nostalgic.
Too flawless for words. Brilliant characters, gorgeous soundtrack, and some of the most charming and witty dialogue a movie has to offer. Not to mention the presence of impressive and stunning animals.
More of an adaptation of Tarzan starring Mowgli than truly applicable for "the first ever Disney live-action remake", Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book has a talented cast and isn't without its moments, even managing to go a decent amount of time without any dialogue early in the film but the lack of action, some dodgy effects and the aforementioned problem of feeling more like Tarzan rather than The Jungle Book make this a movie that works better as a stand-alone movie rather than as an adaptation or "remake".
Very good. I wasn't sure what to expect from this 1994 version of 'The Jungle Book', though I'm pleased to say it exceeded my expectations. It's a very different telling of Rudyard Kipling's work from what I've previously seen, which actually gives it a fresher feel. If we're comparing film adaptations, the 2016 remake is the better film. I still thoroughly enjoyed this one though. I liked the switch-up of events, while the death scenes are excellent. Cast-wise it's strong, with Jason Scott Lee (Mowgli), Cary Elwes (William), Lena Headey (Katherine), Sam Neill (Geoffrey) and John Cleese (Julius) all appearing. Lee and Elwes are the standouts, but I rate all five of them. The score is mostly alright, but some moments of it are superb; one part in particular reminded me, somewhat randomly, of television's 'The Crown'. There are a few things that I can understand being deemed as downsides, those include the silent animals (voices wouldn't have worked here, imo) and obvious nature of the plot. Pleasant film, one of the best adaptations of TJB that I've seen.
A good adventure movie than a Jungle Book movie and the film that started the live action Disney remake thing. The sets are good, the actors are doing the best they can (also this one of Lena Headey's earliest roles before becoming big with Game of Thrones) and the music by Basil Poledouris of Robocop and Red October is pretty good that I even bought the soundtrack from Europe that has a rare and good Kenny Loggins song called "Two Different Worlds" that I wish was also in the America release of this movie.
78% "It did hold out elements of the classic story and not the animated film, but it is purely known as one of Disney's stirring classics".
Fun take on the story. Nothing new but it works.
I love a good, fluffy, Sommers' adventure movie; big, comical, high-emotions, exciting action, impressive effects. Here, he also manages to make a re-quel that doesn't obnoxiously pander to nostalgia, something Disney's more recent remakes struggle with. Lee is great, bouncing between very funny & deeply sad, as his general physicality remains undeniably impressive. If it wasn't so corny (animal attributes speech) & didn't peddle in the cheapness of quicksand, it might have a better reputation.
It was my favorite movie in 1994. It still holds up. Why does nobody talk about this movie!?
Wow! The most boring movie I have ever seen! Mowgli isn’t even a child lame!!👎👎
This version of the Jungle Book is the best version. I highly recommend seeing this movie, it's a must see,
When I was 10 years old, I remember watching this movie on VHS tape at home. Also, I liked this movie as a love story like Tarzan and Jane. Now, I already have a DVD widescreen for an upgrade to watch.
Ever since I saw this movie as a child, it has been one of my favorites. I feel like this a very underrated and relatively unknown film. While the plot has the basic premise of the boy-raised-by-animals story, it is unique enough to keep the viewers interested and guessing. It is a lovable children's movie with lots of live animals and plenty of age appropriate action, while still being able to offer adults a good time as well. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous, the costumes are gorgeous, the actors are well casted. I love the subtle use of Hindi in the script to add to the authenticity of the setting. For me, this will always be one of my favorite movies.
When I was younger I would watch this movie I remember it very well.
