The Rock Reviews
It's absolutely ridiculous, but at least the first half or so is very fun and it has some great pacing. The music is amazing, but it goes to waste after the first half, like the movie itself. I guess they diverted the focus to some mindless action.
The Rock (1996) is a solid action-packed ride from start to finish. The plot is straightforward but executed well, with a strong first act that sets everything up nicely. The pacing keeps things moving without dragging, and there's a good balance between intense action and quieter moments that build character relationships. The script is solid, delivering sharp dialogue and a few memorable lines that stick with you long after the credits roll. Michael Bay’s direction is exactly what you’d expect, high-energy, explosive, and visually dynamic. The cinematography has that gritty yet polished look that works perfectly for this kind of movie, making the action sequences feel immersive and intense. Bay’s signature camera movements and framing give everything a larger-than-life feel, keeping the tension high. The sound design and score are fantastic, elevating the emotional beats and the action without overpowering the scenes. The performances are a big part of what makes The Rock work so well. Sean Connery has an undeniable screen presence, bringing charisma and weight to his role, while Nicolas Cage delivers a strong performance that balances his character’s intelligence and unpredictability. Ed Harris also stands out, adding depth to a character that could have easily been one-dimensional. With great action sequences, strong performances, and a tight script, The Rock is a top-tier action movie that holds up incredibly well.
Filme mais ou menos, o roteiro é fraco, o filme tem cenas de ação bacaninhas, o elenco é bom, mas quase nao ajuda a melhorar o filme e os personagens são mais ou menos, com tudo isso eu não recomendo esse filme.
I remember loving this movie as a kid and just watched it again for the first time in ages. It, uh, didn't exactly hold up and I think it's fair to say it's not actually a great movie. But, it is a hell of a lot of fun. Everything is just over the top. Nic Cage gives a very Nic Cage performance (bordering on just straight bad) and Michael Bay was just running around blowing up everything in sight. I mostly found myself just laughing at the stupidity But again, still had a good time.
This film doesn't start great but quickly becomes a 90's classic as soon as they land on Alcatraz. One of the best high octane actions of that era.
Bayhem to the max + Conmery and Cage = good time
Very great action film ! one of the best entertainment film.
if you like flashy lights, pew pew sounds and the camera cutting every 5 seconds so you can't see any of the fun stuff then this is the movie for you! Don't understand it's popularity nor Michael Bays for that matter. Only good thing here was Sean Connery
have watched this many times and is still a brilliant movie, Connery,Cage and Harris are at the top of their game, class.
If the story was a little tighter and shorter, this could've a great action movie. Otherwise, The Rock is still an entertaining movie that has a solid story, solid characters, and good action. I’m sure most fans of Michael Bay and action movies will enjoy this film
It’s not the only great movie from Michael bay but it’s by far the best one and the one that has the most nuanced storytelling and charachter development they matter this time and it isn’t just about action spectacle, bay actually made it have important charachters to root for which I did and have an oscar worthy script. Sean Connery gives an outstanding performance as the main protagonist who is a retired special force agent and you can understand his motivations on how he is to stop these terrorists from launching poison gas in San Francisco. Nicolas cage is witty and funny as hell as FBI Dr Stanley goodspeed who is engaged to be married and is a fan of the Beatles you can also relate to him and he and Connery have great chemistry and make a compelling team. Ed Harris is three dimensional as the antagonist who first appears at his wife’s funeral and vowes to take revenge by threatening to destroy San Francisco, the other charachters from John Spencer, to William Forsyth, Michael biehn and the others who play the army guys and the government officials are likeable and entertaining. They are also well developed. The action is among the very best bay has ever filmed and among the best framed in the history of motion pictures especially that car chase which was like a fast paced version of that one in bullit. Easily the best staged car chase scene of all action films you can see and comprehend everything going on within it and the story and narrative inside all the action scenes including the shootouts, the plot moves along exhilarated and is plausible enough to not notice any errors, this concluded the partnership of simpson and bruckheimer due to the formers death and it was an emotional ride and it get like a latter tribute to don simpson as it was dedicated to him he didn’t even live to see it and he would have been proud collecting everything that was great about their movies and making it the most exiting and heartfelt, and also intelligent, this isn’t the typical leave your brain at the door action film this one actually has brain cells and thinking it’s thoughtful and has enough involving drama to have enough substance. Michael bay should have got an Oscar for this masterpiece and work of art it’s that great one of the best films of the 90s and in my opinion the best movie of 1996 even better than Fargo and the English patient ranking along with Independence Day as the best of the best of that year this always has and always will remain an action classic 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏🙌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Best action movie in history great plot, great actors and great music.
awesome action movie!
awesome action movie!
I have no idea how anyone can not like these 90s action movies, especially with the iconic actors, set pieces, explosions, fighting, and music. Who cares if they are brainless; they're MOVIES. Not real... If you enjoy action films then this one will be a classic for you as it is for me and countless others. This one is included in the era of Faceoff, Broken Arrow, Con Air, etc. the golden age of action films.
¿You know that this is the best movie that Michael Bay ever directed? If you already knew it you're amazing bro.
A wonderful throwback to when action movies were just action movies. Any lightness in the t-word plot is quickly filled with the charisma and chemistry of Connery and Cage.
I have to say it was a long time ago since I watched the film last time. It is astonishingly entertaining - done at a time when action movies were exactly that - uncomplicated and entertaining action movies. Sean Connery, Ed Harris and NIcolas Cage deliver entirely, Probably the best thing about the film however are the shots (great cinematography) and the music - in my view its one of the best sounds tracks ever (and excellent for working out). Absolutely can recommend it!
When you break it down and think about it for a minute or so, this movie is one of the great action movies of the era. It has the big stars-Sean Connery, Nic Cage and Ed Harris. It has a good supporting cast-Micheal Biehn, William Forsythe, and many more. Hollywood really brought it's big guns for this movie and it shows. The action is imploding, the stunts are explosive and the plot is just mindblowing. The Rock is known as Alcatraz and this is the perfect popcorn flick on a summer afternoon.
