Blade Reviews

Straight up action fun

Apr 6, 2025

Flawed, yet very enjoyable movie. My biggest issue outside of the obviously dated CGI is the introduction of various interesting elements only to abandon them after two or three scenes.

Action was ahead of it's time and reminds me of the matrix

This movie is goated, Wesley Snipes is a goated actor. This movie is a fun and funny vampire hunting movie.

Worst writing, trash characterization, awful forgettable villain with no background to his plan just awful I can go on

Feb 8, 2025

The movie's agenda is to promote more action to action movies and It tremendously succeeds

It's a very fun, dark, gloomy, and edgy film. Films like this are what is missing in modern comic book films, especially in the MCU. "Blade" shines in many factors: a great character, a good plot, a great villain, great twists and turns, and overall a sense of having fun. I also enjoyed the horror element introduced in this.

This movie is really good and you don't get the feeling that the movie was made in the '90s. The plot in this is way better than what is being doled out these days.

All these new age reviews. Lol shame. Gen Z sucks. I grew up with this and saw it at 8 yrs old. I feel like only millennials will appreciate this film. If you know you know. Only muppets post bad reviews about this film.

As of writing this review I am beginning a new journey of watching all of the movies and television shows within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as those adjacent to it. Since the MCU's multiverse has retroactively incorporated the Blade franchise into itself by virtue of Deadpool & Wolverine, I am starting with that since 1998's Blade is currently the earliest media in the lineup I've established. I have kept up with the MCU pretty well since it first started in 2008, but I have never seen Blade. It's important to remember that, being a 1998 movie, it is a product of its time and not unusually melodramatic or campy for the time period in which it was produced. That being said, by modern standards it is pretty melodramatic and campy which made it difficult for me to appreciate the movie for what it is. Wesley Snipes' charismatic portrayal of the main protagonist no doubt carries this movie, and I can understand how he spawned a small franchise. I was impressed with some of the set pieces as well, particularly the underground chamber where the movie's final act took place. I am looking forward to seeing more of Snipes' character.

Blade was a non-stop mayhem packed film from the very beginning. I was stoked watching him blow away zombies and I found the kung fu like scenes to be hilarious. Taking on one enemy at a time while 20 surround them, and the shotgun as his choice of gun too. The costume design is unbelievable for 1998 and Wesley Snipes is the man. This was one of the biggest surprises watching a movie this year and they've definitely gained a fan of the series. "Ice skating, or roller blading up hill" really stuck with me and I still think of that line until this day. The vampires did a great job acting and so did Kris Kristofferson. This was a goofy, action-packed thrilled I'd definitely recommend to anyone. I just need to watch the rest now.

'Blade' is not entirely what I expected. I had no clue this was about vampires, like at all. I evidently knew little about these films, I was anticipating a relatively standard yet stylish superhero flick - based upon the lead character's look, which is the only thing I knew of. That's not a criticism, as the vampire stuff ended up being pretty fun to watch unfold. I will say that Wesley Snipes is the reason for that fact though, as Stephen Dorff and his band of one-dimensional renegades are only just narrowly watchable. Snipes as the titular character is excellent though, while Kris Kristofferson and N'Bushe Wright are good too. The special effects haven't aged the best, though some parts are still decent and, to be honest, even the less than good pieces still work. For example the effect used when the vampires are killed looks fine, though the end with Frost's blood does look a bit dorky now - but again, works.

Not only is Blade immersive, it also acts as a wonderful time capsule for late 90s aesthetics. Fair warning: If vampires sword-fighting to techno music sounds lame, you will not enjoy Blade. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the blood-soaked ride. The early-era CGI is pretty awful by modern standards, but if you can overlook that, the story is packed with highly satisfying set-ups and payoffs. Wesley Snipes is perfectly cast, and as a result Blade is a superb trailblazer for comic book movies.

Critics wtf ??? This is one of the best movie form the early 2000's!

It is a ridiculous movie, with some good action and some bad action. The main problem is the pacing, it is super fast at times and then super slow. Not a must-watch

Day Walker! So dang good. Classic.

Blade is the prototype of merging urban fantasy with action. I had never heard of Blade, before watching Deadpool vs. Wolverine movie, and was curious about the superhero who gave such a crowd-pleasing cameo. It was definitely not my cup of tea. With dated special effects, and paper thin dialogue; I felt like I was watching a video game. Blade is a vampire flick strictly for the fans. I missed the rich pathos of Interview with a Vampire; the romance of True Blood and mystery of Dracula. Not recommended.

One of the best MARVEL movies ever made outside of the MCU. This movie was such a blast to watch
