In Too Deep Reviews
A love story ❤️ about a undercop trying to make a way through educating his style of policing to train the rookie force police 🚔. Will he survive in time, and what would he be willing to do to not break his cover. A hip-hop crime story, as well. Great soundtrack.
In Too Deep is a story that modern audiences will undoubtedly be familiar with. An eager cop goes undercover, and gets more than he bargained with he tries to separate the two worlds of crime and the law. Most recently, the Departed gave us a deep dive into this familiar narrative. In Too Deep seems like an early sketch for this idea, with little character development and a dry story. However, it is great to see Omar Epps, Stanley Tucci and LL Cool J give this paper-thin story a good try. Okay, but definitely not essential viewing.
I great thriller that gives a good insight into a cop ‘In Too Deep’. I watched this at the time of release and it has aged well on my second viewing. We don’t have a huge amount of films like this, so take it for what it is, even if the premise does seem a little generic. Also, a noteworthy soundtrack, I bought the title track on vinyl at the time, which introduced me to the film.
Unlike too many movies with annoying soundtracks that make up for inferior filmmaking, Tarantino allows natural sounds to slip in -- traffic utensils and other everyday background noises. It allows for more drama and a greater buildup of tension.
Has difficulty presenting a fairly simple narrative. I do like the over-the-top sadistic "God" character though.
This much panned cop film depicts a young Omar Epps going undercover to play a drug dealer. He becomes so attached to the kingpin, played by LL Cool J, that he crosses back and forth across the line between cop and robber.
I love Omar Epps! Don't know why we don't see him more. He was Mr. 90's movies. This was pretty good. Hard to see LL Cool J as the bad guy. He didn't pull it off all that well.
The beginning of this film shows the summary; the plot & how it will play out. ~ I give the film a C.
Should have been called "Not In Deep Enough" though J. Reid was in some dangerous situations I felt that his life was never actually in danger and the criminals weren't very cautious about him, in fact they seemed to be very friendly toward each other. I guess I've just been spoiled by "The Wire."
This is a classic 1999 movie! This movie reminds me of the movie "New Jack City" where you have undercover cop poses as a drug dealer to take down a crime lord. The only differance is Jeffrey Cole(played by Omar Epps) was a rookie that gets up in an underworld of bribery, intimidation and murder. Omar Epps, Nia Long, LL Cool J., Pam Grier, Sticky Fingers, Jarmaine Dupri, Hill Harper, Shyheim and David Patrick Kelly, did an excellent job! I loved seeing all of them working together!
