In Too Deep Reviews
It goes by very quickly, and it's different from the other undercover movies that you see of this caliber.

So uneven it's downright schizophrenic.

In its exploration of the moral dilemma of the undercover life, In Too Deep breaks no ground. But Epps is a leading man on the rise, and Cool J is something to see.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jun 18, 2002
Although it is based on a true story, the subject matter has been covered too many times to care, and the by-the-book plot plods along to an anti-climatic finish.

Competent yet largely forgettable.

Not everyone can deal with this level of violence.

LL Cool J with his natural charisma is the key to the movie's edge.

The characters are blur and not vivid.

In Too Deep doesn't exactly abound in surprise plot twists. Even so, director Michael Rymer does a satisfying job of infusing the cliches with edgy persuasiveness.

Unexceptional acting and an excess of cop-film cliches!

In Too Deep offers a valuable perspective on violence and on the human tendency to suppress it or to relish it.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Jan 1, 2000
Empty at the core but superficially diverting.

It doesn't match up to the same level as Donnie Brasco, but In Too Deep is still a decent update of the gangster genre.
