The Bachelor Reviews
The premise for "The Bachelor" probably looked great on paper. Get Chris O'Donnell and Renee Zellweger to star in a romantic comedy, throw in a $100 million inheritance plotline and let mayhem ensue!

The Bachelor is humorous and entertaining, at first. Unfortunately, the jokes become cliché, and the plot becomes a bit unbelievable.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 13, 2020
"The Bachelor" is as generic as they come, the kind of commercial fabrication that sets up a pair of hackneyed concepts, then runs them in concentric circles until there's enough footage to cut together a movie.

O'Donnell's square jaw and clear complexion get plenty of screen time, but not for a second is he believable as a guy with a playboy past.

This '90s remake of Buster Keaton's 1925 Seven Chances will have the legendary slapstick-stuntmaster somersaulting in his grave

Just say I don't.

Viewers have almost two hours to become thoroughly disgusted

O'Donnell, former teen idol/Boy Wonder, has always proven to be far less beefcake than rice cake.

You don't have to know and love Buster Keaton's inspired 1925 farce "Seven Chances" to dislike the modern remake "The Bachelor," although it certainly doesn't hurt.

Although it's got plenty of saccharine romance, The Bachelor ... doesn't offer much in the way of a believable plot, humor, or compelling stars.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Sep 1, 2006
O'Donnell lacks the timing to make the material play, and Sinyor's slack direction offers little assistance.

when it comes to delivering punchlines or finding the laughs in a speech, O'Donnell is way out of his area of expertise, and that's exactly what he's called upon to do throughout 'The Bachelor,' a wholly irritating stab at a fluffy romantic farce.

This may be the first chick flick that shows an open lack of respect for chicks. Meanwhile, O'Donnell and Zellweger both give the lackluster performances of actors caught in a mediocre romance, just putting in time for a paycheck.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Feb 8, 2003
A terrible film that witlessly unfurls its limp narrative. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen the film.

You know a movie is desperately overreaching when Peter Ustinov, affecting a dreadful southern accent as Jimmy's grandfather, must yell into a megaphone for no apparent reason: 'The human condition!'

All in all, it's a decent date movie if you require one. Otherwise, catch it on the small screen for the sake of those character actors who we're glad to see working.

From the moment the credits roll to the 'I could see this ending coming from space' finale, you'll wish you were somewhere else less painful, like perhaps getting your gums scraped by an aluminum hand shovel.

An old-fashioned comedy that shouldn't work but does.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Jan 1, 2000
The gag is evident from the get-go and the movie just repeats itself until its obvious conclusion.
