10 Cloverfield Lane Reviews

Amazing thriller and performance from everyone involved, makes you question who is really the good guy and what are their real intentions.

Great combination of sci fi & horror with great acting, especially by John Goodman. The plot kept me guessing. Third time I've seen it.

3.5 stars; I have to say this film really surprised me. I read the synopsis and was not really impressed. The plot sounded a little hokey, and I wasn't looking forward to a John Goodman performance. I couldn't have been more wrong on both counts. Goodman was totally authentic with his dark character portrayal, and the plot had so many twists and turns that it went beyond a sci-fi plot. The ending was totally shocking.

One of my favorite sci-fi thrillers, and also a film I wouldn't reveal too many details, as to spoil the fabulous twists in plot throughout. Essentially, the movie plays out like a mystery for a good amount of running time: Is Howard the homeowner (Goodman) really telling the truth about what's going on outside the silo? Can Howard really be trusted? Are residents Michelle and Emmett going to discover anything that sheds light on that question? This is where the film really captivates in an attempt to get those answers, and by the time the truth is unveiled...KA-POW!! Such great entertainment from start to finish. A real Gem!!!

All Time Classic. It has nothing to do with the characters from the first one. It's effectively a Halloween III, turning the series into an anthology shared universe. The shared themes are really the Sci-Fi setting but really it's about survival and horror/thriller elements rather than a set of characters like Star Wars or Harry Potter. A very daring, challenging, and new way to take a sequel like this. Really good acting. Emmet is solid, Michelle is excellent too and has a cool little arc I liked, but the best thing in this is Goodman. My goodness he's like a male Kathy Bates from Misery. He is truly fasinating, clever, funny, terrifying, and likeable even at times too. Seeing the three interact is one of the best things. Cinematography is excellent and really evokes Hitchcock style movies. It's a very visually heavy film despite having plenty of dialouge which is really good too to boot. The setting is super memorable, and the direction is really good. It knows when to not be showy and just focus on great character interactions in the most basic way and when to visually tell a story too. Really good music also that is used perfectly but I wish it was a bit more catchy on it's own. Big change from the first one but welcomed. Everything else is masterfully done. First rate thriller the entire way. The only issues I can see is really anything to do with the actual aliens which I don't think is a spoiler. It fits in the context of the universe, is well done, and while it can feel a bit tacked on which I get, I don't think it hurts anything really. Yeah this could've been standalone without that if you just replace it with a nuclear fallout or something but it's a pretty unique way to fit things as a whole I feel. Quite original at that. It reminds me of how people didn't like The Empire Strikes Back as much as the first because of how different it was from the first too with some people who love the original. One of the best sequels of the 21st Century. Everyone should give it a try once.

I think this film is a masterpiece, all of the aspects of this film work together like clockwork to create an incredibly concise and intense experience that keeps us on edge the entire time. It will be hard for J.J Abrams to top this one.

I laughed the whole time during the movie, but out of nervousness.

Intense and confined thriller with enigmatic performance by John Goodman

10 Cloverfield Lane is an incredibly gripping thriller that manages to generate constant tension. John Goodman's performance as the creepy “survivor” is outstanding, and the claustrophobic atmosphere keeps you on your toes the whole time. The movie cleverly mixes psychological suspense with sci-fi elements and offers many surprising twists and turns. The only thing that slows down the arc of suspense a bit is the final payoff - it does come, but it falls somewhat short of the high expectations that were built up beforehand. Nevertheless, an extremely strong thriller.

Um dos piores filmes que eu vi na minha vida.

Dan Trachtenberg’s feature debut, 10 Cloverfield Lane, is a masterclass in psychological suspense. Set almost entirely in a claustrophobic bunker, the film keeps you guessing about the real threat while delivering some of the most nerve-wracking moments in recent memory. Mary Elizabeth Winstead shines as Michelle, a resourceful protagonist who must navigate the volatile paranoia of Howard (John Goodman in a career-best performance). The tension hits its peak in the unforgettable dining scene, where every glance and word feels like it could ignite disaster. Trachtenberg expertly uses silence, pacing, and subtle shifts in tone to create a suffocating atmosphere that keeps you on edge. What makes 10 Cloverfield Lane so remarkable is its ability to balance a gripping character-driven story with the larger mystery of its sci-fi elements. The bunker feels like its own world, yet the twists and turns remind you there’s something much bigger at play. This is not just a suspenseful thriller; it’s a showcase of Trachtenberg’s talent for crafting tension and making the most of a small, contained story. If 10 Cloverfield Lane is any indication, Trachtenberg’s future as a filmmaker was destined to be as bold and thrilling as this film.

The movie would have been great if it made the ending more realistic. The entire global military is gone, but this 30-something person puts together some things with duct tape and a molotov cocktail to immediately spike a spaceship destroyer? Again, the entire global military is gone, but a random non-soldier person throws a makeshift molotov that has enough firepower to destroy the entire alien ship? It was a good build up before then, but ending ruined it. Why don't you give her a chalkboard so she can solve rocket science while she deadlifts 10,000 pounds

I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!!! This literally says it all

This is a very different movie to Cloverfield. It's not a sequel as much as it is a spiritual successor, like Hot Fuzz is to Shaun of the Dead. But it's a pretty good movie if you treat it as a standalone. Not as good as Cloverfield but still good. It's an interesting story. It's presented as a post-apocalyptic story where a bomb or attack leads to three people being in a bunker together, and while there are aliens that rule the world and look cool, the story is mostly about Howard trapping people in his bunker as he lost his daughter. The alien part of it is kinda unrelated and tagged on, but it's cool, especially the ending where Michelle goes to fight the aliens. If there's one Cloverfield movie that needs a sequel, it's this. Howard, speaking of him, is one of this movie's highlights. He's insane, terrifying at times and you can tell that he's losing it as the story goes on, culminating in the final scene with him where he's stabbing the vents and has completely lost it. The scene with the barrel is also terrifying as you don't know what'll happen and Howard looks like he'll snap at any second. Overall, great movie. Not as good as Cloverfield, but great.

Honestly it is not a bad movie, it has a relatively interesting scenario but nothing crazy. I would recommend it but clearly not first.
