Action movie with intense peril and devastation.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 14, 2010
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 30, 2006
The filmmakers do their best to distract us, but eventually it becomes hard to ignore that Behind Enemy Lines is one long chase sequence.
| Nov 6, 2002
Goes over the top and beyond in grandly heroic and even superheroic style, in a way unmatched by any war movie since Rambo: First Blood Part II.
| Original Score: B+ | May 9, 2002
With one taut action scene after another, as long as you leave your brain at the door, this is an a glibly entertaining ride.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 24, 2001
An old-fashioned game of the cinematic cat-and-mouse, soldier-on-the-run variety.

The only thing certain about Behind Enemy Lines is that Mr. Wilson is in it for the chance to work with Mr. Hackman, and Mr. Hackman is in it for the money.

A piece of junk.

You get the feeling the filmmakers didn't want to make anyone think too hard about what's going on here behind the scenes of the main storyline.

The pop-soundtrack bombast of the too-infrequently somber Behind Enemy Lines ... sometimes reduces a mediocre pursuit movie with capable action to 'Rockin' Bosnia.'

Directed by first-timer John Moore on the strength of his work on a Sega game ad, which may tell you everything you need to know about its visual sense and narrative nonsense.
| Nov 30, 2001
Put into the context of a real world at war, the movie seems impossibly shallow.

'Oh no, what will happen to Tom Cruise!' -- that might have worked. 'Oh no, what will happen to Owen Wilson!' just doesn't cut it.
| Original Score: 1/4 | Nov 30, 2001
If you're looking for anything beyond flashy entertainment, Behind Enemy Lines feels out of whack from the start.
| Nov 30, 2001
Has first-rate action and a lot of it.
Full Review | Nov 30, 2001
A slickly entertaining war movie that's sometimes striking, sometimes silly -- but never, ever boring.
