Murder by Numbers Reviews
Interesting philosophical ideas that are presented yet never explored. The pacing & writing feel incomplete & flat. It looks really old & dated with some very illogical behavior. But Gosling in a cool jacket is always great.
This Bullock-led thriller follows a familiar formula, but Pitt and Gosling captivate as ruthless, wealthy teens with malevolent intent.
Sad description of an unhetical world.
Incredibly tedious non-thriller with literally no surprises or plot twists and an early appearance by Ryan Gosling. How on earth was such a bad screenplay greenlit? Sandra Bullock plays a sexually damaged cop put on a murder case where all clues lead to the actual culprits. It goes nowhere at very great length.
I actually really loved this movie. Great characters and performances, with a surprisingly deep back story for Sandra Bullock.
It's a standard Police tv show episode made into two hours. But way less charm than any criminal minds or CSI episode you have seen. The actors are huge but the camera work is as bland as it can be. The name of the film has nothing to do with the film itself, or it's just referring to the script for how unimaginative the characters are.
I think this movie is very underrated. I remember watching it closer to when it first released, and not thinking much of it, but I just finished watching it (December 10, 2023) and it is way better than I remember. I find it interesting that the general consensus is that it is predictable, because the murderers are revealed in the opening few scenes. I feel like the ending while not being a twist, was certainly well put together and satisfying. Also, the back story for Bullock's detective is absolutely brilliant, and one I haven't seen before or since. Definitely worth watching!
i liked it good mystery michael pitt sandra bullock and ryan gosling are great this film has aged its like 20 years old but its worth watching good mystery cop drama.
Not as good as I remember it being. Slow, protracted in parts, and the two main characters aren't developed enough for them to be believable… that and acting feels a little weak
Nota: 6
A good entertaining cat and mouse detective movie.
Ok movie to fill in the time.. Didn't particularly like Sandra Bullocks character. Was expecting more twists..
I had never heard of this movie, but gave it a go, it was well worth it, 9\10 . Good fbi story with some twists and turns. You will enjoy this movie, I really did.
Ironically predictable. When the whole premise of this movie is to deceive and commit the unexpected it's quite a let down that I was able to easily guess what will happen. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the overall production of the film and thought it was an easy watch that didn't demand too much commitment on my part.
Dull cat-and-mouse thriller only notable for an early Ryan Gosling performance as a psychopath teenager. The locations and set design were more interesting than the characters.
It felt overlong and at times quite predictable. The boys' characters weren't all that convincing in the end - the movie had so many plot twists that the logic behind the characters' interactions simply fell apart. I did like Sandra Bullock's cop character as she wasn't an utter pansy while being interesting. All in all, still a better movie than most of the rot produced nowadays - the characters had *some* personality at least.
It is a bit "by the numbers" as more of a ripoff of Leopold and Loeb and spends far too little time on Bullock.
I found it to be way too predictable. Even with the twist at the end it's filmed horribly. Almost insults the viewer's intelligence.
